I didn't lose my left leg and arm in vietnam to be called a coward.
I went and fought in vietnam , and now that i've grown to a pathetic old age,i no longer see things in some romancized form, i see reality, i realize that all that fighting all those so called heroic deeds were all pointless.
Whats so wrong that I don't want my son to die in a pointless war!?

Good for you! You have much more moral authority to back up your position than most people. They are idiots or in severe denial, so don't pay any attention to them.

Thank you for serving. My father and my uncles served in WWII and they were liberals and never ashamed of the fact. Some of my best friends never came back from Nam and some came back in extremely bad shape. I think there are too many people who don't ever see the realities or the results of wars. I've worked with many vets over the past 40 years and it seems to me the ones that took the worse hits speak the truth for better or worse then Monday morning quarterbacks who think it's like the movies or a video game. I've talked to some of the toughest SOB's I've ever met who have served in the Armed Services They were proud to serve this country but they took being in battle as something they could have done without. You know that much better then I ever will and I for one thought your question said more then most of the ramblings that I see here daily.

The reason we lost, and it was pointless, is because we never committed to Vietnam.....I thank you for serving the country.....you did it, and you should allow your son to to do it, if that is what he wants....it is voluntary after all....you can tell him you don't want him to, but allow him to make his own decision.....and no war is pointless.....unfortunately Vietnam was a police action, and this one is not much better than that....declare, or get out

Dear Sir;
First of all I'd like to thank you for your service in Vietnam.You are exactly right,human fighting IS ultimately pointless,and some of the effects of the Iraqi war show that.

YOU ARE NOT A "LIBERAL COWARD"

A LIBERAL PER SE IS NO COWARD

YOU'RE A HERO FOR BEING BRAVE ENOUGH TO TELL THE POWER-HUNGRY REPUBLICANS WHAT THEY DONT WANT TO HEAR.

Thank you for putting clarity of thought above foolish romanticism and nationalism.Dont let those bastards get to you!

Sincererly yours;
-Jim W

Absolutely nothing. Cherish your child and keep him here safe in the states where he can be a productive member of our society instead of being a martyr for a retard's war.

Thank you for serving our country. Now, let the people who have the courage to protect our country decide what war is pointless!
If your son didn't want to fight a war he shouldn't have joined the military.
