i cant explain it but......streets go left and right and aves/boulevards/roads go up and down. ( not always) but thats how you use 2 names of streets to determine where you go.

It used to define the the width or type of road, and the direction the road went.
Tradition held it that Streets went North-South, and Avenues went East-West...
Now... it's really whatever sounds best, or what the property developer comes up with, though some cities DO adhere to the directional rules still.

I think streets and avenues go in different directions, i.e. street runs east and west and avenue runs north and south. Not sure about road, boulevard, etc. It might have to do with the size of the road, where they run (neighborhood, commercial area, etc.).
That was a while ago.
Now, they mean nothing.

A think roads are smaller streets and avenues are bigger ones. A boulevard is the one that has something in the middle, like trees or plants or anbything.

A street is usually around neighborhoods. A Crt.(court) is usally used for a different type of neighbor hood, that is more closed in and private. A lane is a place for people to drive on public streets they all just stand for different types of things where you can drive, and things like that.

None really. They are just ways to add to the name and like previous ones have said, to have more than one "Maple" road. The only slight meanings are that Lanes tend to be narrow and boulevards tend to be "broad"
