You should be working for free then

Seriously though...Australia implemented a $10 minimum wage. Their economy went through the roof, because people had the money to buy things. That 1% of american's make at or near minimum wage is BS. The actual number is 9%. Less than minimum wage...now that number is about 1%, but even that is too high. American families making less than a living wage? 28%!!! Living wage is considered a single, 40hr/week job that can provide a place to live, food to eat, and other basic neccesities for a family of 4. Allowing corporations to starve their employees (without whom there would be no business) in order to make a few more short-term dollars is dispicable. If you support this, you support slavery. Wal-mart made over $10Billion in PROFITS last year. If they took 10% of that, they could provide a living wage to all of their employees, as well as full, free health coverage for every employee. As it it, they are burdening the taxpayers of america by not providing healthcare and giving each employee applications for medicaid and welfare when they are hired. This is SICK and WRONG! Not everyone can get another job...in many area, there just aren't enough jobs, and many people just don't do well in school, so it's difficult to get ahead in life.

The minimum wage has not been increased in about 10 years. How can someone say there is some ulterior motive here? Congress has given itself pay raises many times during that period. The cost of living has escalated significantly in those years, even if you leave out healthcare and energy.

Concerning those you might judge mentally or physically deficient, where are your numbers indicating this is a significant factor? If someone is incapable of doing a specific job, they should not be hired for it. That said, I believe there is a job out there for just about any skill set. (If not, government and charitible training progams are available.) Asking someone to work full-time for $10,000 a year in this economy should be a crime, though. Requiring a reasonable pay scale of employers willl reduce the need for welfare programs. Besides, we have congresspeople who are mentally deficient and they are making over $100K.

Waiters get tips, and usually end up making a pretty good wage after that is counted in, and they aren't counted in taxes usually.
I've never worked at a place that started anyone at minimum wage. There are lots of places around to work if you don't want to get minimum wage. If the company needs workers bad enough, they will raise the wages on their own.

... if it's only 1 percent... then what does it matter... and it's hardly going to put anyone out of business, at least any company worth it's salt...

it's all about cheap labor and keeping cheap labor... granted, it may help the economy, but those who talk about it "helping the economy" are never the ones making minimum wage...

the only thing it's going to do is it may not allow the owner of a company to buy that second yacht... poor owner...

what is that, the disabled on minimum wage probably make up about .0001 percent of those on minimum wage... people who are disabled don't work, usually... and just because they are disabeled, should that automatically cast them into poverty?

Look up "buying the poorest people's votes" on Google, and you'll get all the info you need on the proposed (useless) minimum wage increase.

(a minimum wage is illegal anyways! If you aren't making enough money, SWITCH JOBS!)
