Voivod (who are actually one of the most respected metal bands... their fans include Metallica, Tool and Mudvayne) Jason Newstead joined the band after leaving Metallica (he was quoted as saying "My new band kicks my old bands' A$$) Their newest album (Katorz) was released on July 25th. Elexorien (Elexorien's site: http://www.elexorien.com [might be having technical difficulties atm) is a great Dutch band... their genre might be considered "Epic Viking Folk Death Metal"... and I know that might sound weird, but Lainedil's intense growling against Ine's classically angelic voice, come together in a beautiful harmony, powered by heavy riffs and medieval-style interludes. It blends together very well, like root beer and vanilla ice cream. One of my favorite bands, next to Metallica and MegaDeth.

Butthole Surfers - absolutely bizarre band... they lie somewhere between rock, metal, and "What are they thinking?"

Ministry - Definitely one of the heaviest metal bands I've ever come across. Two of my favorite songs they've made are "N.W.O" and "Jesus Built My Hotrod".

GWAR - akin to the Butthole Surfers, this Death Metal band is extremely humorous, although equally graphic in their portrayal of their galactic domination and destruction (warning: if you're a Christian, don't bother, as they're extremely blasphemous... and if you're of weak constitution, again, don't bother, it'll make you sick).

Godsmack - a pretty decent rock band, their lead singer (a devout Wiccan) has an exceptional voice, and their music is very melodic.

Cirrus - moreso an electronica band, they make plenty of use of rock elements, sometimes with rap-esque lyrics. (Their music can be heard on the Sega Dreamcast game Demolition Racer: No Exit)

Rage Against the Machine - they're pretty good, and politically motivated. Haven't listened to them in a long time, so I don't remember a whole bunch about them.

Anthrax - been around since at least the mid 80's. Technically a metal band, their music tends to encompass other styles as well (such as the rap-influenced "I'm the Man", the humorous politically-influenced "Startin' Up a Posse", and the gentle, darker, almost love-song like, "Black Lodge").
