How much influence does the Israeli lobby have on the United States?

How much influence does the Israeli lobby have on the policies of the United States? How much power do they have? Which polices have they enforced? Which policies have hurt the United States and which have helped? Please cite specific examples. Thanks!

Most American congress persons are pretty ignorant about the Middle East being voted into their seats directly by the Americans. Now the first thing Aipac does is "educating" the uninformed congress person about Israel alliance with the US, "marketing" that supporting Israel is the smart decision always, "influencing" some straying sheep (i.e. congress persons) to play down any critical rhetoric against Israel after doing an honest homework or researching the original roots of conflict.
So in turn, Congress persons are first to call Aipac when there is something cooking for the Middle East. It's some sort of Pavlovian training, where a dog's mouth waters if a bell rings.
Aipac helped the US law makers to further government interests worldwide, but the down side is generating deeply-rooted hatred against America in the Middle East population and other nations.
