A few days ago I ate a whole bunch of edamame and ever since then I've been cutting some really rank farts. Now my wife is mad at me because she thinks I'm doing it on purpose. First I tried to blame the cat (we don't have a dog) but she knows my brand so I couldn't get away with that excuse. Also last night we were in an elevator and the cat wasn't there. I ripped an SBD and seconds later my wife glared at me with that "you farted" look on her face. I tried to blame it on someone else by shrugging and pointing at the guy in front of me, but she didn't buy that.

So how long will the soybean farts continue? Is there anything I can do to make them stop? How can I explain this to my wife so she'll understand that it's not my fault?

10 ways to stop farting:

1. Avoid carbonated drinks (peligrino, coke, 7up, squirt, etc. etc)
2. Avoid dairy products (milk, cream, ice cream, sour cream, etc.)
3. Chew your food when you eat it. (no more two bites and swallow) The slower you eat, the less likely your stomach acids will come into play during the digestive process. You see, when you eat fast, it goes into your stomach not fully digested which means that your stomach releases acids to help break down the food. In your mouth, you have salivary glands which release enzymes (basically spit) which assist in breaking down the foods so that your stomach's work in digesting the food is minimized.

With two chews, there aren't these enzymes in place and that means your stomach's gotta do more work. Often times in this scenario, the gas does not always got to where it is intended.

4. Anti-fart Tablets. I'm not sure what they are actually called, but just go to a drug store and tell the lady you have a farting problem, she'll help you out.

5. Avoid overeating. If you overeat, your body releases more acid to digest the food.

6. Avoid beer. They seem to contribute to sharp or volume inducing flatulations.

7. When in doubt, sneak out and fart when nobody is around. At least then, no one will suspect you**.

8. Wear loose clothing. When one wears tight pants, there is less space for the stomach's gasses to digest the food and as a result, gas goes places on pure physics.

9. High Fiber Diet: Increase fruits and veggies as they make the digestion process easier, hence less susceptibility to "implosions" of the Three Mile Island out of the anus variety.

10. Soak soybeans or any beans you eat in water prior to eating. We've all heard that eating refried beans leads to farting. I've heard somewhere that if you soak them in water, somehow that breaks down the gasses in the beans leading to less flatulency.


**-Make sure it is windy outside or the smell will follow you.

Diarrhea can contribute to hemorrhoid formation because the bowel undergoes pressure strains due to the condition. Undue pressure on the veins that make up internal hemorrhoidal structures can worsen existing damage. Internal hemorrhoids are not visible, unless they proplapse (protrude) from the anus, either constantly or during a bowel movement. If this is the case, then you have a grade III or IV internal hemorrhoid. If the protrusion is on the anal verge or the area surrounding the anus, then its likely an external hemorrhoid. Reducing pressure from issues of diarrhea and constipation will help. Not straining during a bowel movement, not lifting heavy objects, not sitting for extended periods, all will help.

An external hemorrhoid is simply a vein located at the anal verge, the wall of which as weakened and protruded. Don't push on it, this will only increase pressure and worsen it. The body has to repair the vein wall and rebuild the integrity. This takes time, perhaps weeks, if all goes well. Use sitz baths and over-the-counter medications such as pads or creams to provide symptom relief in the interim. These won't solve the issue long term, but will give the tissue a better chance at self-healing.

Internal hemorrhoids are a different matter and require more intervention. Your best bet is to educate yourself about the condition, its causes and what options there are to treat it both short and long term. Don't ignore it though, hemorrhoids tend to become chronic in nature, lasting years or decades in some cases.

Any beans can make you fart. They're the musical fruit, man! The culprit is oligosaccharides. Say it--o-lee-go-sack-a-rides. There! Wasn't that fun? Oligosaccharides are a type of sugar that your gut has trouble digesting, and it causes gas from when your gut bacteria try to break it down but only succeed in making you have gas. If the soybeans are gone, then the gas should be gone, too. In the future, take some Beano and with any cooked beans, boil them briefly (after you've soaked them, if you soak them), then pour off that water, put in fresh water, and cook until they're done. Most of the oligosaccharides will be washed away with the water. Drain and rinse canned beans (but it won't be as effective as if you cook dried beans according to the above directions.)

And put a few charcoal briquets in your pants--that'll help cut down on the smell. Or put in an open box of baking soda. People will think you have hemorrhoids on steroids, but you'll be fresh as...a guy with charcoal in his pants.

If you like beans and fibrous foods (which are good for you!)
you can take beano which gets rid of gas. Its' in health food stores.
