I am security guard at a Library and need some good come backs for these fine young teens. I object to thier littering but there are no rules for library grounds. Please help me with some good comebacks!

The perfect comeback:

Really? And someone can get paid to pick YOU up, too!!

OR

I don't think ANYONE could afford to pick you up!

OR

At least the cigarette butt GETS picked up!

What if the person who gets paid to do this slacks off and forgets a few and the little thing gets jammed up a birds beak and it was a one of a kind bird who was going to save your life for the cancer you may get.
I personally would make a larger state ment and pick them up yourself and wait for the teens to be there once you have a bucket of butts just dump it on them!
you may get into trouble that way!
they must not care about the enviroment!
if you know where they live you could start to throw peices of paper in the yard and say you have shelter to pick this up!
stop thowing cegarettes on the ground! 1 they will get it with parents maybe... 2. they have to pick up some stuff
or next time they are out there just talk to them nicely " hey I don't mind you smoking and i won't call the cops on you but i really wish you would be a decint human that i know you are to toss your butts in the can! I know it may be a few feet out of your way but it won't go unnoticed"
or call the cops on them!
Post library rules make them if you have to
have a guard harrass them on a dailly basis picking the buts up and throwing at them or something!
touch choices
Good luck!

I certainly sympathize with you. I work in a library and we have to pick up after adults! What pigs!

I am not sure what to say to kids who don't give a darn about anything but themselves. You can be sarcastic, but it is usually lost on them, or, it can generate into a full argument. It isn't worth it to argue over cigarette butts.

Yes, people get paid to clean it up. The custodial staff have other important matters to attend to rather than their trash. Could you direct them to the receptacles for cigarette butts and say, "The library thanks you for keeping the area clean for others."
They will probably snigger and walk off.

It's hard when others show a lack of concern for the property and
rights

How about....
"One cigarette butt can cause a fire that kills a lot of people and does a lot of damage (39 died in the Mont Blanc tunnel in France from a cigarette butt out the window and a cigarette butt caused $20 million in damages in Richmond- just factoids for you. Don't say that). I hope you enjoy jail. Someone will pick up your butt there."

The best comeback is for them to get a $50 (or however much) littering ticket.

Unfortunately, louts who litter and who have so little regard for public property aren't likely to be impressed by irony or humor.

Good for you, however, to be concerned.

(Littering isn't like generating garbage: I am always amused when rubbish collectors complain that there is too much rubbish left out. If there weren't, the City wouldn't hire so many people to do their work.)

Does someone get paid to pick it up? If not inform them they are wrong. Even if they do say "That has been in your disgusting mouth" - but that would not go over good....sometimes a non-verbal is better, look at them and shake your head in disgust and say "tsk, tsk, tsk" maybe shame will help.

My friend smokes and I am proud to say he always knocks off his cherry and puts the butt in his pocket!

Might want to say next time something like..."I dont know of anyone who has a job title that says :cigarette butt picker upper".

Or..."Stop littering God's country".

Or perhaps..."I dont go in your house or room and throw litter on your floor so please dont litter our grounds."

Good luck with this one, that is a tough one to beat without any laws or rules. My hats off to you for having to do that and Thank you.

You should say "Yeah, and I get paid to beat up punk kids that throw cigarette butts on the ground without picking them up."

Tell them to "pick it up." At the rate they are going, the only job they will acquire WILL BE picking butts of the ground and possibly (hopefully) ALOT WORSE.

You're right ... and thank you for the tax money you gave when you purchased the tabbacco. It helped pay for the Library.
