Yes they are to be richer then Japan in 7 years. After
their Independence the British left them with nothing but a
war ton land and they have made great acheivements in
59 years. Well most of the people in this blog are just mad
that India will be a super power becuase they don't want anyone but America. In the past 5 years they have made serious
improvements. For example when I visited 5 years ago
their were cows on the streets and poverty everywhere.
Although some of those things are still a problem when
I visited in 2005 cows were banned to be on the streets
unless they pull wagons or have a bucket under them to
catch the dung. Those who are jobless also work for
the government as street cleaners. The government has also deployed trucks to clean the streets at night. 10
years ago 25% of the people were in poverty and now its
19%. In 2011 it will be 13% if things keep going. They
have brought a new generation of inovation and they are one
of the few countries that can launch satalites which is
usefull for military tactics. The U.S will still be a superpower
ofcourse. The alliance between China and Pakistan is
draining and China sees India as an investment oppurtunity.

I definitely think so...Why do you think the West is making sure that they are on good terms with nations like China and India? India is rich in intellect and human power and the citizens are quite patriotic, so they would not hesitate to fight for what is theirs (a large and readily available armed forces). India also has its own nuclear program, and because of their large population they are able to perform more services for less money, which encourages many international companies to invest in the Indian economy, and this will help to strengthen it. The Achilles heel in India right now is the corruption (political and otherwise). When this is curtailed, there is no stopping this super giant from being a world leader.

Not unless they do something about abject poverty. Their modern economy is quite small, and limited to a few cities. With hundreds of millions still living on less than a dollar a day, how can they be or become a "superpower"?

India and China are already superpowers; they are not powerful enough militarily to take down the US.
