Support Israel in general? Yes, the same way we should support Palestine, Lebanon, etc. Support the actions it took in the last fight with Hezbollah, no. America shouldn't support attrocities like that committed by anyone (although the American military is told to do similar acts...).

No. Every year, there is an attempt by Congress to remove all records from the Library of Congress of the events of the USS Liberty. (See USSLiberty.com ). The few remaining survivors of the Liberty each year lobby Congress to keep the records in tact. After the last surviving member of the Liberty dies, there is little doubt that all records of the Liberty will be erased from history. After the invasion of Iraq, the Israeli government insisted that the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" (WMD) were moved into Syria. The Israeli government insisted that the US should immediately invade Syria. It was after this that Colin Powell announced that he would not be returning as Secretary of State. Prior to the invasion of Iraq, the Israeli government insisted that the weapons supplied to the Palestinians were form Iraq. As a nation, we have financially supported Israel since its inception. We have fought wars in part on their behalf. All tolled, we have spent many trillions of dollars on their behalf (if you include the war in Iraq). Noteworthy is that GW Bush did not go to Israel until the very end of his second administration. And when he did, it was more a site seeing air tour of the Biblical sites rather than on official Governmental business. A noteworthy curiosity. President Obama has also not made that trip. Jimmy Carter has made the trip in the last 15 years only to have the Israeli Government admittedly snubbed him. I was once a strong supporter of Israel. Today, I say enough is enough. Time to cut our losses. And for those who think Israel is our strongest ally, you should read the records of the USS Liberty. I would like to see Israel treated the same way we treat Saudi Arabia or any other country in the middle east. If they support the US and have something to provide our nation, then we will embrace them. At this point, what does Israel have that we need? I can t think of a thing. In lieu of Israeli support, building three military bases in Iraq would do more for the US and provide a cheaper solution than financially supporting Israeli for the indefinite future. (We shouldn t ask if we can build those bases in Iraq because we defeated Saddam Hussein. We should just build the bases and cut ties with Israel. After all, what has Israel ever done for the US to be considered our closest ally in the region?)

No, the US should not continue to support Israel blindly as it has for so many decades. Israel has maintained a policy of aggression and occupation, having occupied parts of southern Lebanon now for 20 years, and now controlling upwards of 80% of the entire West Bank. The US gives several billion dollars to Israel every year, and as recently as 2000 about 75% of the $4 billion total was an outright military grant, not a loan, but a GIFT from US taxpayers. Israel uses this free money to bomb and destroy Arab villages and towns, including the current wrecking of so many buildings and homes in southern Lebanon. US taxpayer money should not be given to them for this purpose; it is counter productive and only leads to more violence.

The US has given twice as much money to Israel as it gave to all of Europe after the Second World War.

Israel should be responsible for its own problems that it creates and not expect US taxpayers to foot the bill for their aggression. Without billions of US dollars to back it up, Israel might be forced to take a more pragmatic approach to solving its problems in the Middle East, instead of just blowing everything up all the time.

The rationale for the unconditional support of Israel, regardless of the nature of policies and attitudes adopted by Israel, is the belief that Israel, a legitimate entity, officially recognized by the world community, would be vunerable and in real danger of being wiped off the map of the region if left to its own devices. As the world "hyperpuissance", to use the newly coined french phrase, US is under the moral obligation to defend and protect the only democracy in the region. The real cause of such support, however, lies in the overwhelming power and leverage held by the Jews in US political and finacial scene as well as in media circles.

As a superpower and the world greast democracy, America could be looked upon as the kind generous big sister, drawing on the bright spots in her history ( the constitution, bill of rights, freedom of speech etc) and using her leverage to play a mediatator and perpetuator of the universally acclaimed values (freedom, human dignity, justice, etc). For the purpose, Ameriac will need to show a decent degree of impartiality and keen sense of justice and equity, notably when dealing with the Middle issues.

money / administration / power administration/ money /power power / administration / money conflict is very worthwhile. the human beings who your seek advice from, are, in my opinion, comparable to what Jesuit or Catholic Church replaced into in during the 12th to nineteenth century. analyze your early history as to why Spain first despatched the Jesuit clergymen, and by using the bickering over the proportion of gold to be decrease back to Spain. Spain got here across yet another non secular team common via fact the Fransiscan's who greater or much less took much less of a decrease. history repeats itself repeatedly. money will continually be the base line.

Yes. Even if we leave out the moral imperative, we should still support Israel because it is the first line of our defense against Islamic Fascists. They would not stop after destroying Israel; they would not stop until they conquered the world, and if they ever do conquer the world, they will continue to fight with each other over differing interpretations of their religion.

To say Israel is "agressive" is pure stupidity. Of course the US should still help Israel. Israel is probably our closest ally in the world.

If USA abandons one of its closest allies, then all of the other US allies will stop trusting the US government. And USA will loose its political influence in the world.

Russia stopped supporting it's allies abroad, when the USSR fell apart. And now it doesn't have any allies to speak of. The same will happen with USA, if it starts abandoning its allies.
