I work with a little girl who was born at 24 weeks. Survival is, obviously, possible, but risk of death, serious illness, and later developmental delays is *very* high for babies born so early. I don't know what the earliest survival on record is.

I believe 25 wks is the minimum, but the chance is slim, and if they do survive, they will be in intensive care for weeks or even months. Between 25 and 37 weeks the chances get better and better. At 37 weeks a baby is considered full-term.

Babies can survive if born at 24 wks with lots of health problems. I was born at 26 1/2 wks in 1977 and I weighed 1 ib 8 oz. I was in the hospital for 3 mos and my parents were told that I would have lots of health problems and developmental delays. I do have a tiny hole in my mitral valve(part of the heart). I have never had any developmental delays. I was very lucky, but miracles do happen.

somewhere after 26 weeks.but the chances are slim......Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck

I had fall down the stairs in my house, When I went to the ER the Dr. told me that if something went wrong with my baby, there would not be a way to keep it alive, I was 18 weeks at the time. He told me if I was 24 weeks or more than they could monitor my baby to try to keep it alive. Thank god nothing happened to my baby.

Not sure what the question is????

In terms of risks of miscarrying, your risks drop considerably after the first trimester, but dont completely go away.

In terms of premature, you want to your pregnancy to go throughout its complete term. There is no way of saying when a baby can survive on its on, even if it is complete term baby.
