You can wear a headscarf, and I doubt it would look any stranger than a lot of clothing other people wear. What you are experiencing has a lot more to do with prejudices, due to cultural differences. A lot of people see the head scarf here as a symbol of the subjugation of women. That's wrong. After all it's not a hot burkha, so I don't really see why people don't like it. I'd rather look at your head scarf than some teenage girl's tattooed pierced fat belly hanging out of a pair of cheap tight shorts.

I don't know where you currently live. I assume you don't have to wear it where you are. My guess is many people in the US see it as you have been MADE to do it and don't have to here. They believe that your culture has made you hide yourself, which may or may not be true. Also with the way the world is right now many people see your attire and are reminded of the war and terrorist activity. Most people don't know the difference in the cultures in the middle east. I know I don't, but am open minded enough to realize there is a difference and not all people are starting wars and committing terrorist acts. Many of the things that are worn in different countries may be because of the climate, sand, sun and any other various reason also, not just religion. Wear what you are comfortable in. What makes you happy is what counts.

From the democratic point of view people have no right to interfere with your believe and your clothes. However after 9/11 some idiot, shallow minded Americans and rascals took the opportunity to mistreat any Muslim. This will end by time , do not look back and move forward.

I don't see a problem with it..if you are comfortable wearing it, why not? It is freedom of expression.
By the way..hey Bubbles..Jesus would be sad to know you are judging people like that. And what the hell have YOU done that makes you so able to judge? I am not even a Christian, and I know Jesus said that if you take the splinter out of your own eye first, then you can see to remove the splinter from someone else's eye.
You are a hypocrite.

Choice is the key word here. Freedom equals choice. Oppression takes away choice. Those who insist you wear it, or those who insist you take if off, do not defend freedom. They merely defend their only perceptions of what their personal morals, etc are without even considering yours. If you want to wear hijab, then wear it. If they want to show their breasts and wear mini skirts, then let them wear it.
If people truly value freedom, they should let everyone decide for themselves.
Don't let them pressure or insult you. It's they who don't understand the true concept behind freedom and tolerance. You do.

I don't have a problem with it. The whole point of America is freedom to believe, act, and especially dress the way you want. If anyone gives you crap, tell them that THEY'RE being unpatriotic by questioning your rights. And give them the finger. They deserve it *hug*

To me it symbolizes the supression of women. It is a symbol to your muslim male counterparts that you are subserviant, since it is required that you cover your head just for being a woman. I think that as an American (if you are) you should be freed from this head shackel your people require you to where. We are free in this country. Take it off.

A nun is a person who gives their entire life to god and to help the world be a better place. What the hell have you done for anyone??? It's disgusted me that you would compare yourself to a nun. Why don't you read about JESUS!
And you look retarted with those things are your head... It would be like English people dressing like it's the 1800......
