Oh yes!!! I did an experiment for my chemistry project on this and found out that vinegar will kill young weeds in about a week. The acidity is not a problem because the soil corrects itself after a few days. The vinegar you have is probably 5% acetic acid. I suggest 10% if you want a faster result.
An alternative to vinegar would be either pulling the weeds out yourself or buy some herbicides from the local store. Herbicides works much better and the one I used cost around $10

I've come acustomed to maintaining my garden according to the gospel of Paul James: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_lawns_maintenance/article/0,,HGTV_3600_1378214,00.html
So far, the guy has been right about everything. I used to watch the show religiously until I got a DVR. Now I watch him more often.
But yes, you can use common household vinegar as a safe alternative to commercially available chemical weed killers. You can also use boiling water, which also kills the seeds so they dont get a chance to germinate. Just be very cautious to not get any vinegar on your plants.

Yes. I've done it myself. Your best bet is to use a more powerful vinegar but you can use regular grocery store vinegar. Spray it onto the plants on a hot, sunny day. Also check out You Bet Your Garden, a public radio program produced by WHYY in Philadelphia. Mike McGrath talks about this all the time.

I've tried boiling water and pouring it - that works for ants and weeds.
