My favorite ferret forum: http://www.everythingfert.proboards36.com/ You won't regret joining, it's a wonderful community of ferret lovers.
You need to pick up a copy of "Ferrets for Dummies" by Kim Schilling. It's an invaluable resource that is very up to date. No ferret person should be without it.

I don't know where Jets.Knicks got this information but it's completely inaccurate! Ferrets only bite if they haven't been trained not to! Just like any other animal, ferrets need to be socialized to human beings and taught that biting is not o.k.
I would like to point out that this person apparently does not and has not owned ferrets. I own three ferrets, two of whom I have had for more than six years. My ferrets are very well-behaved...they lick my hands when I pick them up and are very affectionate and social. They love to play with people and they do not bite (except when playing and they DO know the difference between playing and not playing and when they nibble it's never hard and never breaks the skin). It's absoloutely ridiculous to suggest that if you own a ferret, you should wear gloves. My ferrets have the run of my home.
If you want some great information on ferrets, you may want to pick up the book "Ferrets for Dummies". It's a great book and will teach you about ferret care, behaviour, and dietary needs. Ferrets can be a lot of work and I hope you look into it before you go out and purchase one.

Ferrets are fun animals. They are very social. Ours plays with our 3 cats, and when we had more than 1 ferret they would also play together. However, if you want one, they are expensive.. they usually run about $150 here in Michigan. Sometimes it's hard to find food for them as not all pet stores carry ferret food. It's even harder to find treats for them. If you get a ferret you have to play with it for several hours a day. If you don't socialize with the ferret, it could become sullen and mean. Not necessarily, but it is possible.

Please dont listen to jetsknicks! Ferrets aren't like that unless they have been neglected or abused. Yes, when young ferrets will nip, just like a puppy or kitten, and they need consistant training not too, just like any other pet. Em's websites are good, don't really have any to add, except maybe http://www.ferretuniverse.com. It's where ferret owners get together and talk, and there's lots of good info on there. You can read posts, but you can't post on it till you're a member.

if you have children, dont get a ferret. if you dont want to be bit on the hand every time you pick him up, dont get a ferret. there reely hyper animals that love to bite. most ferret owners have to wear a thick glove while picking it up so they dont get bit. they can also ruin your house because there so hyper and active and stuff. get a dog or a reptile or a guinea pig. i have a boxer dog and a bearded dragon. they dont ruin my house or bite
