In my city we have several dumps where people can take things. The one near my house takes old computer equipment. I don't think your local trash collectors will take it if you just throw it out. Check with your city's department of public works.

It's illegal to just throw it away in the trash because the monitor contains lead and mercury, among many other things harmful to the environment. Check to see if there is a computer recycling center near you.

A lot of recycling centers are starting to accept computer monitors. The only exception is that they cant be the small 14 inch monitors, or have amber glass - something about that color being tough to recycle. I would definitely call the nearest recycling center.

Well technically you are not supposed too. What I was told when I needed to dispose of 20 old crt monitors. He thought I meant 1 or 2 .... he said I could just toss it if I was only getting rid of 1 or 2. But any more than that, you need to recycle them.
personally, I would call a PC shop and ask them.
hope I helped..
