I help market games and I can tell you that the answer is "anything you want". Nobody cares what the game is written in. There is no best, there is only pros and cons.

Notice, that is a diffrent answer than "what should I learn in order to work in game development". If you want a cubicle in a large company working on a game with hundreds of other programmers then there are some industry standards. C++ is a biggie altho C is moving up fast.

Most games are built on C++, but you have to be very advanced.

you may pull it off somewhat properly in Java or seen uncomplicated, yet in case you opt to bypass hardcore, do C++ or C#. they're the most expansive languages, and also you may do maximum something with them.

3ds max is good for modeling, .net is good for basic games, and 3d games you can use the directX developing environment.
