I admit, im a huge classical music buff, I acutally cant stand anything else. All music today seems about boyfriend/girlfriend/cheating/love ad infinitum, and the main theme is only like 2 lines, the rest just filler.

My sister always thinks of classical music as "boring" but I cant see that, maybe it takes more active listening, but it was the dominant form of music for hundreds of years. Why has it sadly taken the status of country music popularity? Can it ever make a comeback?

Have any of you really given it a shot (besides pachabel's canon)?

Thanks!

Each to his own! I personally can't stand most of today's pop music - it's irritating, apart from perhaps one or two songs that I might hear by accident and never find again. The lyrics don't bother me, as I can't understand what they're singing - it's the generally monotonous beat that gets me.

Classical music has never disappeared; it doesn't need to make a comeback. Every time I go to a concert, recital or opera, the auditorium is always full. After a particularly well-played or sung piece, the audience erupts into cheering and foot-stamping in appreciation, and one feels one has witnessed something truly great, a God-given talent or gift perfectly expressed.

I think a lot of people are discouraged from discovering classical music because it's not seen as "cool"; I also suspect many younger people would not admit to liking it, either. When one has been exposed only to pop to the exclusion of all else, it can be difficult to adjust to something completely different. Remember, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven et al were the pop artists of the day!

My own tastes are for the more unusual - not for me the popularised "Nessun Dorma", "Flower Duet" and others. I tend to prefer the lesser known pieces. But that's just me. (And I have loved classical music ever since I sat on my father's knee as he played bel canto opera, Beethoven and Dvorak, etc.)

I listen to classical music all day at work. I couldn't get through a day without it. I also played it for my children when they were babies and it had a calming effect on them. Now, they both enjoy classical as well as other types of music.

I think that kids are exposed to it early enough to get an appreciation of it. When I was in school, it was part of the curriculum; now music isn't taught in many public schools.

I loooove it! my favorite is the Romantic era--by I like alot from the Baroque era, as well. I never realized that pop music even had a " main theme"-- probably just a short "plot" is about all.

my faves? DVORAK!!! definitely! especially his 9Th symphony (all the movements especially 3 and 4) and the Slavonic Dances!

also, Beethoven's 6th, his piano works, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Schubert, GRIEG(!!!), Mussorgsky (esp. Pictures at an Exhibition, last 2 sections-- have you ever heard this work performed live?WOW!!!), Manuel de Falla, J.S. Bach, Gabrielli, J.Strauss, Handel(!)---- this is all Heaven SENT!!

Most people dont listen to Music, they listen to Songs.
If you listen to modern"music",you will notice the"musicians"
arent really doing much 2or 3 chords at the most. And the "singers" are hollering about nothing but BS.

i'm a fan of many types of music and i find classical to b beautiful and inspiring. many people may not appreciate it because they can not here the story within the notes or it is their choice not to. just look at it this way, if a new cd comes out you don't have to wait for back order.

besides what? What is wrong w bf and gf stuff? It's part of life. Not all of them are, there's fun songs, and aly and aj have other stuff, and miley cyrus, skye sweetnam, maybe kelly clarkson, pink, um tlc, what else? I'm listing what I love. I loved classical. I'm not a buff, I listen to today's stuff. I haven't heard classical since 7th grade for the most part. It's nice, genius too. It's calming. I like it. What do u mean by that? That's just how songs are. Otherwise they are like 2 minutes or less. It would be very boring. And no story. Not catchy either.

I'm sorry but I have tried it and I find it boring too! But I think in a nice restaurant I like it in the background, it's kind of romantic then. But my personal choice is Country Music, I'm sorry but I'm a country girl originally from Kentucky.

most of the stuff you are complaining about requires at
most two brain cells to comprehend. classical music is
more complex so too many don't bother with it. the same
can be said for jazz which i also like.
