Is Gore using the threat of global warming to scare people to vote Democrat in 2008, like the Republicans allegedly did with the war on terror in 2006?

Note: This thread is not to debate the "realness" of global warming, nor is is suggested that Gore will be running again.

This thread is about whether or not Gore is trying to "scare" people into voting for environental change, ala war on terror scares people into voting for "security" change.

Yes he probably is trying to scare people with these threats, he is simply using it as an angle just like Bush did with the war on terror. Global warming is a threat but i am uncertain as to how big a threat it is in relation to how much the politicians talk about it.

THE WEBSITE for the new Al Gore environmental film warns in no uncertain terms that “We have just 10 years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tailspin.”

To Gore’s way of thinking, manmade carbon emissions are contributing mightily to global warming and Americans must take the lead in ending those emissions, even if it means paying an astronomical price and falling further behind in global competition.

So what is American Al Gore himself doing in this do-or-die effort? Apparently not much. In a column in USA Today last Thursday, a scholar reveals that the former (and future?) Presidential candidate is a rank hypocrite when it comes to saving the planet.

Gore and his wife reside in two huge homes. One is a 20-room, eight-bathroom mansion in Tennessee. The “smaller” one is a 4,000 square-footer in Arlington, Va. And they own a third.

It costs energy to run these hovels, but even though utility companies in both areas offer “green” alternative electricity programs for a few cents more per kilowatt hour, Gore hasn’t signed up for one.

Author Peter Schweizer writes that Gore’s office confirmed this last week, but said the Gores are now looking into switching utility offerings. Just now? How convenient.

Perhaps Gore was too busy cashing his oil company dividends to make the switch to all things green? That’s right. Gore’s family owns a great deal of stock in Occidental Petroleum, one of those big, bad oil companies that has been accused of drilling in sensitive areas.

“The issue here is not simply Gore’s hypocrisy,” writes Schweizer, a Hoover Institution fellow. “If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn’t he made any radical change in his life?”

No, Global warming is a scientific fact, And this has been PROVEN by the American Academy of science. This is in no way a scare tactic, I believe Mr. Gore genuinely cares about our planet and just wants the world to wake up and do something about it before its too late. The Republicans on the other hand are still using there scare tactics, You watch mark my word sometime between now and election day Osama is going to pop up with another video. And how long has it been since we have seen the "terror" warning system, and now all of a sudden right before election time a so called terror plot and the return of the "terror" warning system. Be afraid Be very afraid, there coming to get you, all you peasants out there be sure to vote republican WE wont let them get you, but in the mean time be afraid be very afraid.

Gore is not trying to scare anyone, he's simply trying to educate people about the very real threat of global warming. If you research the topic, it will scare the crap out of you. As for political repercussions, I doubt that there would be any at this point in the game, but later on when global warming gets worse and people are forced to reckon with it, then it will be a very important issue.

Global Warming has been a part of reality since before Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" even came out. Second of all, last time I knew Gore was not running in 2008.

No. Because he's out of politics.

This is an issue he was involved in before he came Vice President, and now that he's left politics he's going back to that issue.

It's not inherently a Democratic or liberal issue. Nor is it opposed to the Republican or conservative platforms. The core issue is that we as a country and as a species are pumping pollutants into their air that is harming the environment.

Whether the effect is large or small, and whether it is the cause of the climatological changes or just a contributing factor, is irrelevant. It's like littering. It harms the environment, now and over the long term if we keep it up.

Ignore the spokesman. Ignore Gore entirely. It's not a partisan issue, because it doesn't affect the core platform that either political party is trying to promote.

Everybody should be behind finding alternatives to fossil fuels and behind preserving our natural resources.

Regardless of your opinions on Al Gore, global warming is an EXTREME problem, and you are an idiot if you don't believe it is. It's not even a political issue anymore. EVERYONE agrees that THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH GLOBAL WARMING AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I think that Al Gore wants the kids of our younger generation to live and have happy lives without having to worry about putting on our space-suits to walk outside.

Do i think Al Gore will run for the presidency in 2008? Yes. I do not, however, think that he is using global warming to get himself there.

If he was running, maybe. But he is not running. Besides, if he was running on the idea of Global Warming being the biggest issue, he would have some serious problems.

It is a problem, but there are others that would take a front seat.

No such thing as global warming. A vocal minority (about 5%) of scientists believe in it and of that little bitty 5%::::: most are not climatologists. Just a bunch of liberal nuts with big mouths and the attention of a screwy press. Al and Tipper Gore are about the nuttiest of the nuts. They are the conscious police and have invented everything throughout history. Nothing is possible without the Gores. Publicity Whores.
