No, it is a useless waste of money, they haven't solved one single problem yet. They just slow down everything. The UN should move to Paris, get it out of the USA - maybe we could make that land into an amusement park or something.

I wouldn't trust the UN to walk a dog and pick up its poop in a responsible manner, let alone bring peace anywhere.
It has become a useless and very expensive charade. When you consider that General Secretary Kofi Annan has let the Rwandan massacres [he was in charge of UN forces at the time], the Darfur genocide and the Oil-for-Food scam occur on his watch, and yet still defends his actions, you cannot help but realize what a corrupt and useless banality it has truly become.
It was started in the grandest of beliefs by Churchill and FDR, but even Churchill, ever the prognositicator, believed it would turn into the useless League of Nations within a couple of decades.
It does some good in some areas, but it has failed miserably in any aspect of peacekeeping or accountability.

I have immense faith in the theoretical UN. An omnipotent, international governing body is the future. Unfortunately, it will remain handicapped until the most powerful nations stop usurping the UN's authority.

Yes!
The more people believe in the UN the more effective it is!
Some countries scream the UN is ineffective to block, veto and stop resolutions. That way it is not their fault!
If you do not believe in the UN at least check in the web how much the UN is doing world wide.

Yes and no. I'd like to see the UN succeed and i think it has the right idea with having a diplomatic open forum, but in matters of war it is just too slow in getting the hostilites to stop. That having been said, if it weren't for the UN no one else would have stopped the fighting in Lebanon.

Not at all. They talk and talk and talk and then make a resolution that's ignored.
Didn't the UN have a resolution in place for like 16 years that called for inspectors in Iraq to check for weapons of mass destruction and Saddam just blew them off.
