dunno i would adopt an open boob policy except for fake boobs "i don't like fake boobs" ....but im thinking maybe boob covering maybe for support reasons ever see boobs that stay uncovered/unsupported their whole life like african women with boobs hangin around their waist not a pretty sight maybe man at some time decided it was worth covering good boobs to not have eyes damaged by bad boobs ....not all boobs are created equal

In some places it is still common to see boobs in the open. It was not until the start of European civilizations that the breasts became an issue of controversy.
I imagine that the issue of breasts being covered up came because the seeing or feeling of breasts arouses sexual desire. As do many other places. For instance, why dont we cover up ears, since they arouse sexual desire if touched in a certain way? I guess its also because its a mamatory gland, so people tkae offense to seeing a baby sucking on them?

That's a very good question. I heard about the outrageous uproar over a magazine cover last week that featured a baby breastfeeding. People - mostly women - called it "disgusting," "offensive," and canceled subscriptions.
There is no point in human evolution when this happened...in many cultures it is still acceptable to show breasts in public. It is an unfortunate feature of industrialization and church-imposed forced morality.

in lower classes, boobs never really got hidden. Even the first pioneers in the US had bare boobs, the pilgrim fathers put an end to it. In fact, it's all about religion I guess. Especially the monotheist ones. Around here, free boobs can be seen as close as 5miles out of town. And I don't live anywhere close to Saint-Tropez!!
Haven't you noticed that fashion tends to free them again?? The devils...

I don't know. Probably because of religion, although I have heard of an evolutionary tendancy to protect the things that are most vital to the survival of the species. For example, I read that it is instinctually for guys to want to cover and protect their crotch. Maybe us women want to cover up our boobs to make sure our kids survive, or to prevent males from always being aroused and asking us for sex or raping us.

In all types of ancient art medium, the female breast was usually exposed. Even in the Christian realm, paintings, sculptures, and drawings commonly and frequently depicted females with one or more uncovered breasts.
Female breasts and sexuality did not become strongly connected until the repressive Victorian age when women were expected to cover more of their bodies.

Who knows. Remember when the ankles were erotic - that's why women wore long dresses.
In China small feet were erotic (that's why women bound them til they looked like hooves)
At one point I think the neck was considered erotic and had to be covered.
Humans are crazy man, accept it.
