SO if they grow there own then what .THEY no longer need us .
If they have there own money and do not barrow for a military to protect there country then what .they live in peace .So we trade weapons and what do we need them for ? protection .
SEE if we do not create wars then peple will begin to get along .
WE have supplied weapons to each country we now have soldiers in .
What does that tell you .
WE also supply technologiy but what good is a computer to a man with a mud hut starving to death .
HIS Government needs this to keep track of all the money and people and who owes what .
WE have not gone to the third world and built farms and help create and agricultural base .
PEOPLE still plow fields with oxen in the third world .
So we are not a kind nation willing to provide farming equipment except to industrial nations that can afford it .
JUST think if we spent 1 trillion and gave the world farm tools like tractors and harvesters and some seed and well pumps .
THAT creates friends .

Welcome to Canada. That's what we've been telling America for years, but did you listen? Noooooooo! You called us useless hicks. And made fun of our peacekeeping troops and actually bombed them. Twice! But hey, we can travel almost anywhere in the world, and be welcomed. What about Americans?

You sing a pretty tune. you just leave out part of the equation... Humans. Its easy to sit back and say give them this , give them that. The part you don't understand is all that has been tried. All that you mention is wonderfully simple and you would think easy to do.
The problem lies in their political, religious environment. Sure give them a plow and pump and sure enough the INDIVIDUAL you gave that to will use it, and produce. Then either the local war lord or political leader or religious leader will say thank you, take it, and probably the equipment you gave them, and sell it to some one else. The answer is never as simple as the thought. Real reformation of the third world comes not from aid, but from with in. From their governments doing exactly as our own government and take care of its people and not themselves or political or religious crony's. So throwing money and equipment will never work. Nice thought tho...

We did all that in Africa, the USA actually gives the largest amount of dollars in foriegn aid across the planet.

What good is a free plow to someone who then sells it?

The government isn't the only one selling weapons, the US government allows small arms to be sold to other countries by private manufacturers.

What does this tell me?

This tells me we have laws that protect commerce. It also tells me that if the "3rd" world could get past corruption all the money and supplies we give them could be used to develop their economies.

We don't want countries to be self-reliant. That would diminish our power hungry capitalist corporations...

It may create friends, but what would it do to the economy? Our goal is not friendmaking, it's moneymaking.
