I have a Siberian Dwarf hamster, and I've been reading online that they turn white in the winter as the days get shorter. Does anyone know if my hamster will turn white in the winter even though she is kept indoors?

If she is a species known as the siberian winter white then she will turn white in winter. There is a normal siberian hamster that doesn't and there is a species that is ginger in colour ,the Campbells siberian hamster.

I can only tell you that the siberian dwarf hamsters I had growing up did not change colors. They were wild as all get out....but they did not change colors.

Sorry I can not rate..but I just wanted to say that the answer by Steve art is a really good one and very informative. The site is really cool too. I enjoyed reading about the hand reared birds.

The winter white version of the russian/siberian hamsters do. It's kind of cool to see them transform even though they are evil little things!
