I just recently moved from the "ghetto" to a better area of town. However, when I shop at the local Wal-Mart, it is like I'm back in the ghetto again. Where do these people come from and why are they always in Wal-Mart?

Maybe I should have reiterated this. I am poor, live paycheck to paycheck. I'm not judging anyone. But I thought a better area would bring people that know how to act. Just because you do not have a lot of money, does that give you the right to open chips before you buy them? Or, instead of using a fitting room, is it right to just take off your shirt in the middle of the store (and it is especially disgusting when the person is overweight!) I've even seen people eat produce before buying it. Recently, I was waiting in line to check out. A guy who was just buying a box of condomns was in front of me. THe cashier must of knew him or something because she held up the box and waved it to the line and said, "Hey everyone, look what he is buying." Yeah, prices are wonderful at Wal-Mart. But I'm getting to the point that I don't want to put up with this anymore. I will drive farther to shop at Target. Why can't people that act this way stay in the "ghetto" if they do not know how to act?

That's why I avoid Wal-Mart at all costs. Shop at Target, it's neater, better organized, the restrooms are clean, and the people are civilized.

Low income doesn't equal low class. However, low class people will go to Wal-Mart because it's cheap. Try Target or a different store.

In the midwest, especially the state I live in, Wal-Mart is about the ONLY place to shop. They have such a monopoly on business throughout this area. Plus, it's not only "low-class" people who shop there; blue collar people who work hard for their money choose to shop there because it helps stretch the family dollar. Just about everybody I knows shops at Wal-Mart every now and then and I certainly don't consider myself nor my friends, family, and acquaintances to be low-class, which is a term I assume you use interchangeably with "trash." We're not all made of money; if you are, kudos to you. But snobbery is ugly on anybody, regardless of your economic status.

Wal Mart is a evil empire that saturates nations with stores.
They can sell cheaper than anyone else because of this and the fact that they buy overseas goods at a lesser rate.
So with that said low prices means lots of poor people shopping there.
They will come from miles around to shop at that place.
I hate walmart and never shop there.

After skimming through these answers, i can't believe people would equate shopping at a store with characteristics such as being uncivilized, low-class, and uneducated. It's a store. It sells stuff that one might need. Maybe Wal-mart is closer than Target or maybe they like the smiley face on the commercials. There are infinite reasons why one would shop in a store but yet there are people who insist on being judgemental. Do the rest of humanity a favor and stop exsisting as a waste of space.

Dear Friend:
It is because Wal-Mart is a resolutely growth-oriented, non-union corporation. It is the biggest company in the history of the world! They got extremely big by developing a reputatoin for keeping their prices extremely low. Wal-Mart is able to keep prices low, in part, by paying their employees very low wages. This is only possible while they adamantly resist the intrusions of organized Labor. People who are ready and willing to accept the lowest kinds of jobs are generally people of the lowest socioeconomic strata, people who have nowhere else to go. And, of course, identically, these same class of people who "have nowhere else to go," have nowhere else to live: the populate the "ghettos". We must remember that there is no true "them". There are just those of us relatively less fortunate, and in this case there are at least three factors that intermingle in various ways to produce the unfortunate circumstance: poverty, relatively low intelligence and growing up in a difficult, poor invironment (often with cursing, inured marginal literacy, drug abuse and violence).

Why should anyone that shops anywhere be grouped into some classification? Why is there this false sense of hiearchy attached to where you shop? Why do you think you are better then the people that shop at Wal-mart? Bigatry comes in many forms and this is one of them. And I bet you call yourself open-minded too...cause "you used to live in the ghetto".

Because Walmart recognizes that low income people just cannot afford prices at the mall so they make some knock offs and sell them at a more affordable price. Students shop there too, not just ghetto people. I work two jobs and it's just not in my budget to buy apair of pants that cost $120 that I may only wear once.

Your question is ambiguous...let's see... you move from the ghetto...okay...you state that only lower class people are attracted to Wal-Mart, but you shop at Wal-Mart?

Wal-Mart is all about promoting the lowest prices... unfortunately the "lower class" people you are referring to are "low class" because they dont make a lot of money... nothing wrong with Wal-Mart or the people that shop there, if you don't like it go somewhere else!
