It's valid to question whether our President is qualified or competent. This question is phrased in a provocative way which may anger some people, but it can be answered. . I look at courage is putting your life or your reputation, or something on the line.
Bush did not serve in Vietam, and he could have. As President he often doesn't seem to want to face the effects of his policies. He is said to live in a bubble, hearing only the preselected news his aides filter for him. He gives speeches almost exclusively to hand-picked audiences of avid supporters. Advisors and cabinet members who dare to disagree with a position he has taken are dismissed. He's not open to change based on circumstances, and he does not admit it when he is wrong. Those actions take courage.

Courage means many different things to many different people. Remember that when you are pointing your finger at someone that there is always 3 fingers on your hand pointing back at you. Many times what we see in others that bothers us is something that rings true as being something (a problem or misunderstanding) inside of us that we need to deal with.
I think you think you are being cool by asking this question and I wish you were being sincere instead. Apparently you have only vague knowledge of Hitler and who he really was and what he really was accomplishing. Please read newspapers and history from that time. Also, study up on the history of pre-Islam: this would be Saracens. Then study up about how after WWI the Middle East was broken up between France, Britain, and Russia. Then you might get onto some truth about what is going on today. Whenever you have these beliefs and questions it is recommended to do a lot of research before accepting the ongoing opinions of others without knowing why you are accepting it. Being informed is not being a wimp.

Lets get real here. Nobody knew or cared about Bush's
character in the military prior to his bid for the Presidency.
What lessens our character here is Bush as a President,
not what he did beforehand.
Moreover, even if he was an extremely courageous soldier,
that doesn't mean he would be a very good President (or
that he would be a very bad one). It would have given
some perspective that he might have found useful in this
case ... but who knows!
Perhaps having read the "Pride goeth before a fall" thingy
in the Bible a few thousand times might have been MORE
useful.

Hitler, who you don't possibly remember was courageous to take on Poland,England; the Russians, yes and even the French. He was a persuasive leader that came along when Germany was in turmoil and would have listened to anything to restore their proud status. Hitler was however quite mad and full of ambition. President Bush is no hitler, but he is not wise in not enforcing the costitution and not fair to the persons that gave or are about to give their life for. I would love to see him get earthly, swear more like blood & guts Patton, kick the Un out and tell the camel jockeys to go to hell along with their PC supporters.

Bush doesn't lack courage. In fact, he has more raw determination and willingness to carry through with his ideals than most presidents in the past few decades.
What Bush lacks is an understanding of the legal system, our constitution or the concept of checks and balances. He believes that the Executive branch should be pre-eminent, and not subject to limitation or review by the other branches. However, that's not how this country was designed by the Founders.
Courage isn't the problem. Failure to follow the laws and lack of respect for our Constitution, that is the problem.

While he is in no way courageous, Bush has a one up on most of us. Bush is prepared to die. He perfectly content with it, and has been conditioned that way since college. This may be where he gets much of his admiration from the Republican politicians and the reasons for this are the real answer to why he resides in a seat of such power.

I am not so sure that it is so much his lack of courage but more his lameness, his inability to speak an intelligent thought, and his harsh decisions, which make our country lose its character. I think this president had shown the true nature of the rich upper class american middle aged man....GREEDY AND MONEY HUNGRY THUGS........and to josh I am sorry that millions have not died yet under bush's administration, but a couple thousand is enough

What have you done to earn respect? I see a lack of courage in this question. President George W. Bush has shown great courage in allowing people like yourself to criticize him & his family. He took a huge pay cut to serve his country, he went to war knowing it was unpopular. He has made religious stands knowing the liberals would crucify him for them.

Common denominator: Christians.
Christians want so badly to be in charge and to have a leader who will hasten the apocalypse that they are willing to overlook Bush's cowardly ways as well as his lusts for torture and spying.
