I have a pregnant guppy fish and I want to remove her from my big community tank she is in and put her in a separate smaller tank where she can relax until she gives birth. I will put some plants in for when the babies are born and a small filter. My problem is I don't have an extra heater so the water wouldn't be as warm as it should. Would it be enough if I just did about 10% to 20% water changes a day with the new water being from the big aquarium she is used to? Should I maybe put a lamp over the aquarium to keep it warmer?
Thanx

The best thing to do in this case would be to get a small breeding net and put it in the tank where she is now. It will just hang on the side of the tank (inside). The netting allows the water to circulate and keeps the babies in it.

A few floating plants will give them something to hide from their mother in and they should be fine. Get some very fine food for baby livebearers and start feeding them as soon as they are swimming around.

A light would help keep the water warmer, particularly if the tank isn't too deep. Use some of the gravel from your existing tank, that will help get the bacteria growing. It would be even better if you put some of the filter media from your old tank into the filter of the new tank. I also don't have a heater for my 'nursery' tank.

Yes, a breeding net or box would be your best bet. It will hang right onto the the side of the tank into the water. It won't stress her as much since the water temp and quality will be the same. This is the best one: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=14698&N=2004+113766 . You can find a simpler version at wal-mart or a petstore.

Please when it comes to breeder nets and breeder boxs DO NOT USE A BREEDER BOX. They are unsafe. Plaese use a breeder net.

I would try the breeder net due to the fact that if you move a fish to a new tank and its not close to the tank she is use to it will over stress her and could kill her or cause her to lose the fry (baby fish).

Try your best when netting her not to over strss her. Try not to chase her around to much and not to bump her into anything.

After the fry are born you need to move her rigth away other wise she will eat the fry.
