Peace is not the purpose of war.
Wars are necessary for survival. The bad guys start them (with me so far?) the good guys have to win. If enough good guys win enough wars, there may be some decent people around in the future to try to find a way to peace.
Meanwhile, we survive by being tougher than evil.

War is sometimes a means to achieving peace. Take the horrible incidences with the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. We have been at peace with Japan ever since.

Sometimes.
These wars today are about a show of force not peace. Hezbollah didn't strive for peace when it kidnapped those soldiers in response to the Hammas/Israel fight...It was a show of force!!!!!
But without war during the 40's no non Anglo Prostestant would have had peace in Europe.

Well, when there is a fight for justice, there has to be a fight.
Whether it is a war of words or war of bombs, there has to be because the offenders are violating human rights and peace.
When you go to court, it is a minor war
When it is bombs and guns, it is a major war
But to maintain peace and maintain human rights and equal rights, there has to be war because the offenders keep on violating.

it's such a simple question and yet so complex. i wish i could give you an answer but i can't. unfortunatly it is in human nature as a whole to destroy. it is painful and sad but it is fact. if it's not one war it's another. they are a part of every generation and every great civilization. while i wish with all my heart there could be peace, there will always be someone wanting to destroy.

so says the warrior Jesus Christ, NO WAIT HE in no way DID, ISA 14:a million For the LORD could have mercy on Jacob, and could yet decide for Israel, and set them of their very own land: and the strangers would be joined with them, and that they shall cleave to the domicile of Jacob. ISA 14:2 And the people shall take them, and placed across them to their place: and the domicile of Israel shall very own them interior the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and that they shall take them captives, whose captives they have been; and that they shall rule over their oppressors
