Madonna - she's been an ICON for 20+ years. She's reinvented herself over and over and over again. Her sound has changed, and she's changed with the times. She's never let controversy bring her down - in fact she's come back stronger from every bit of bad press she's received. And she's done it with unmistakable grace, talent and a TON of style every time.
Seriously, she DESERVES to be in the rock and roll hall of fame the minute she is eligible for induction!

Hands down on Sheryl Crow...all are good however this woman is an example of honesty, down to earth, humanistic and an Entrepreneur of Style, making "Home" what it is suppose to be. She remarkable has accompanied many artists on benefit concert dates for no pay, all contributions are managed. She is not DIVA in the studiio, she is the example of Small Town Girl makes Good in the metro....I have nothing but applause for Ms. Crow.

Of that group, i would choose Sarah McLachlan. Because she has a great voice, and actually has *substance* (which i cannot say the same for most of the others).

Since you gave us a choice I would have to go with Sheryl Crow as I like her voice and the songs....
With your screen name - I'm surprised Doro wasn't #6 - do a search on any free music site - and download "all we are" if you've not heard her!

3. Janet of course! Control, Rhythm Nation, The Velvet Rope, need I say more. These were great albums. I am not too crazy about the latest albums and her new single is horrible to me. But Janet Jackson is a classic talent.
