THere are essentially two possiblities here...

1) Linkage/Electronics - It could be the external linkage has become damaged and preventing the shifting. It could also be that the external components that assist in the shifting (electronics, vacumn lines, sensors) could be malfunctioning to prevent the shifting. This possiblity would be the least expensive ... but I really think it's not this problem.
2) Clutch Froze - the most like case is that the transmission has internal failed parts that have caused the clutches to stick and freeze. This is going to require a rebuild to fix and it won't be cheap.

My suggestion, find a transmission shop you can trust and get the car there.

Good luck!

If it's an Auto, check the fluid level. If it's a manual, does it go in other gears with the engine off? If so it's probably the clutch, if not the gearbox or more likely the linkage to the stick.

Because there is probably not enough oil in the transmission.
You check it with the dipstick with the engine running.
A bottle of tansmission fluid conditionner usually does them a lot of good too.

depending which trans you have either 125-c or 440-t4 they both have tv cable which may have broke, also these models have governors that can strip out the drive gear . have a tranny man investigate these components. if ok get ready to have rebuilt.
