Japanese = much higher quality, priced perfectly, mostly fuel-efficient.
American = cheaply made, overpriced gas guzzlers
Self explanatory.
And if you're worried about saving jobs, get this: My dad's Nissan was assembled in Tennessee, and my brother's Ford was assembled in Mexico.

I own a GMC and a Toyota. Even though my GMC is still fairly new and runs very nice, I have regrets because the resale value plummeted and it is a gas guzzler. On the other hand Toyotas (and most Japanese cars) retain great resale value and give better mileage.
Not that I am looking to resell my vehicles but it is a bit disheartening when you pay a good price for an asset and then a few years later the market value depletes. Low resale value is a plague with American made vehicles. Japanese vehicles retain a good resale value and they out last all American made vehicles.
My GMC is a 2003 Envoy XL and runs very smooth and is in immaculate condition. I enjoy driving it except for the gas guzzling defect. I recently bought the 2007 Camry LE and man what a superb looking vehicle! It is good on mileage too and nowadays I drive it mostly. I take the GMC on family trips mostly.

My first car was a Toyota. I beat the crap out of that car and it ran for ever. Like two years after I sold it to someone for $200 bucks I would still see it being driven around town. It must have had over 200, 000 miles on it at that point. I think a Toyota or a Honda is a better investment.

I own Honda... and a Ford, but the Ford was free and I would never pay money for an American car. I'd buy an American truck over a foreign one though.

I own a Nissan Altima.
I would like to support American Auto Makers - but I have to consider price, gas mileage, and reliability into my decision.
I think the American cars are a lot better then they were in the 70's and 80's.
Hopefully in a few years when I am ready to get a new car the American car co's will have what I am looking for.

I've owned many of both. Most of the trouble cars were American. But I've had my share of foreign lemons also. I had an American built Toyota and it was a piece. Go figure. Just make sure that if you buy a Japanese car, it was really built there. Vin starting with J. If you go that way anyhow. I just got rid of my GMC Canyon on the lemon law if that gives you any indication of their vehicles.

I've owned Fords and Chevys. I have also owned Mercedes, Toyota and Nissan. The foreigners were far and away better vehicles. Now I have two Toyotas. A 1981 SR 5 shortbed, and a new Avalon. The truck has about 350,000 miles - all I do is change the oil . . . love 'em both.

I drive a nissan now and I bought it brand new 3 years ago & it is still going strong. I dont like Honda cause they sold a supposedly "Certified Pre-owned" car to my friend that was once totalled in an accident and was covered up, then after a month of having it fell apart and honda won the suit which was ridiculous!! So I only like Nissan!

most of the American cars I've owned(ford, Chevy, dodge,Buick, Oldsmobile, Chrysler) have been just OK....and as I've migrated through the brands I've discovered that the American cars just don't cut it...That does however exclude pickups....
The Nissan, Honda, and Hyundai I've own have been top notch and well worth the money.
I've also own two V.W's which were quite nice..
Japanese..most of which are assembled in America anyway...
