lipoma is a harmless lump of fat. There are several different types, classified mainly by where they appear. The most common location is just beneath the skin, where they are easily felt, but they can occur anywhere.

Most tissues in the body can grow beyond their normal limits and form a lump or tumor. Tumors come in two forms: benign and malignant. Malignancies are referred to as cancers, which rarely stop growing. Benign tumors reach a certain size and then stop growing. Moles, polyps, and lipomas are examples of benign tumors. Some of these can turn into cancers, but lipomas do not..Lipomas have no known cause........Depending upon its location, this may be a simple office procedure or require an outpatient surgical facility. In any case it is minor surgery unless the lipoma is deep inside the body.More commonly used to remove large quantities of fat from under the skin, this procedure can also remove single fatty tumors. Under local anesthesia (e.g., Novocain) a rigid tube is inserted through a button-hole incision into the fatty tissue under the skin and a strong suction is applied, sucking out chunks of fat.
There are no preventive measures to avoid lipomas

KF - You there? I have a lab/shep and part great Dane and Yes he is huge :) he is about 125 - 130 pounds and very tall for a lad looking dog anyway he has had a lump that has gotten bigger over the years ( About 6 )years now. Two days ago he was chasing the squires in the mulch and I think a piece poke him in that lump because he starting licking it all day for the first time in six years. I cleaned it and wrapped it and he pulled it off, story short three times he ahs done this but now he has actually pulled it open and I can see inside it like fat and barely any blood but a lot of clear fluid and I did have antibotics on hand I have been giving him until we can get him to the vet hopefully today, it's a money situation but most of the time they will bill us since he has done a hip surgery and has taken care of him since he was 8 weeks and his real brother from the same litter we have him too..anyway do you think this is just a fatty tumor? Appelhans69@yahoo.com and thank you so much. I am so worried we loved them with all our hearts and I have no children of my own so they are my children they are going on 9 in Jan 2015 Thanks again so MUCH!!!!

Here are some changes that you can incorporate into your life now that will take some weight off, and more importantly keep it off.

Drink more water
Don't drink any soda, even diet soda has a lot of sodium [salt] which will keep water in your body.
Eat more fruits and veggies, less processed food and fatty meat.
Cut out the junk food. Learn more here:

I was the shorter, plumper girl. I'd been about 190, 200, most of my adult life. And I met my goal, ten weeks ahead of schedule. And feeling empowered, I decided to drop even lower. I never imagined that I would be 125 pounds, and go from a size 18 to a size 2.

I have had one in my right arm for over 20 years now. Is there anyway I can get rid of it without having surgery?

usually that term refers to a "lipoma," which is a benign (not cancerous) overgrowth of fat cells in a particular area...often on the scalp or elsewhere on the body. They are usually removed with surgical excision. If it is small this can be done with local anesthetic often.
