If a doctor examined you and let you know that they could not find the baby's heartbeat. However, by the time you got to a doctor for them to check out the baby, you would have already lost the baby (meaning that once the baby dies your body find a way of ridding itself of the child).

You wont for the first 3 months or so, but after I bought a fetal monitor. I rented mine through Baby Beat on the web, but I have seen that Target stores sell another verision. It lets you hear the baby's heartbeat, aminotic fluid and other maternal sounds. ITs great it gave me piece of mind. They also have ones that count the heart beat and you can even record the heartbeat.
Good Luck :-)

Being pregnant, I would say you wouldnt know unless you went to the dr. to so the dr could check you out. There are baby "heart monitors" you can buy at the store, which I did, but it didnt work for crap.

if it's before you have felt movement you wouldn't know until they couldn't hear one on the doppler, or see one on the ultrasound.
if it's after you have been feeling movement, then no longer feeling that movement would indicate the death of the baby.
