If an ignorant racist organization adopted our current American flag, would you want it removed from state capitals or banished from society, just because of that organization?

That was done to the Confederate flag. The confederate flag was never intended to be a symbol of racism and its creators never intended it to be.

Society, as a whole, takes what they hear and see at face value. It is important to look behind what is in front.

Besides the majority of blacks just need something to gripe about. Lazy ducks as a whole with a very few exceptions, if any. LOL...

The confederate flag....It shouldn't be banished, but I think a fair compromise should be we take it down from the capitals or at least replace it with the Star and Bars, so that the majority of the ranting will stop.

Most people don't know that flag because they are ignorant of the history. Win/ Win

The american flag is the same symbol of hate at times.

People get in gear over the silly things, we could banish it but the groups would just pick up another flag. I have seen Klan members holding Old Glory and Crosses but it doesn't mean we should take those away.

People link racist behavior with the symbol, like slavery didn't exist under the American flag, or unequal treatment of people stopped after the Civil War. Indians fell under the gun looking at the U.S. Army, not the C.S. but people don't think of it when they see Ol Glory. If you live in the North, chances are your house was bought by the sword.

We had slavery, some of the North had Indians.

When it comes down to it every man has the right to do whatever he wants within the law. Take those simple rights away and people will rebel. Leave them in place and the equality will give breathing room for all. I think compromise is key to moving forward, but wiping out the rights to display a flag should be avoided.

what an assine comparison.

for an "ignorant racist organization" to adopt your flag is one thing - but to CO-OPT it is another matter. The "stars and bars" will always symbolize America - by virtue of its institutionalization. The Confederate flag on the other hand, has been co-opted for the most part by "ignorant racist organizations" - and thusly is offensive to many.

Take the swastika - which in many countries around the world has symbolized peace, prosperity, Buddhism and good luck for millenia - it was never intended to be a symbol of racism or genocide, but thanks to the the Nazis, the symbol has been co-opted to the point whereit is offensive if not outright illegal in many parts of the world.

I find it interesting that you feel the majority of blacks "need something to gripe about" - seems most of YOUR posts are you griping about something (women, blacks..) your avatar looks Asian - are you sure your not BLACK (by your own stereotyping..)

I can't be mad at you.

You're hurting yourself more than those you wish to insult.
