I bought an external hard drive specifically for storing music and photos on so those things wouldn't eat up all of my storage, but when I import songs they are stored in the My Music folder on my C drive. I only want the files stored on my E drive; that's why I bought it.

When I cut and paste the files, it only seems to transfer the file names; if I delete the files off of the C drive, and then try to utilize iTunes on the E drive, it can't find the files.

I can change the path to the files, but so far I have to do one at a time.

ok,

first - cut and paste the files into your e:
that should not leave any duplicates

second - open itunes
locate and add the folder where you copied the files into the itunes general options. [or the place where itunes scans for music files]

bingo. that shud do the job

Peace

Go to your My Music folder and "Cut" all the music files you want to transfer. Then "Paste" them onto your E drive. That will copy the files to the E drive then delete them from your C drive.

I think you are referring E drive as your external drive. Now if yes then first plug in your external drive via usb cable and then go to that folder or directory where you want to copy songs to your E drive.

Select songs and right click and then click copy.

Open My computer and open your E drive and then Right click and click paste. Thats all.

I highly recemmond backing up all your data. Windows has a power tool called sync toy which will sync two folders left and right so each is updated whever you tell it to. Hard drives are NOT perfect and can just crash on you.
