Women gain weight because that helps keep the baby healthy. Women who don't gain weight during pregnancy usually have children born smaller or with health issues. As for a bloated nose, that's just a personal way of gaining weight, and I don't think anyone can solve that. As one person said, an ultrasound is the only way to determine sex and even that has mistakes.

Hi, from experience I can tell you the nose thing is unavoidable, it happens towards the end and is somehow linked to hormones.
As for gaining.. you should gain about 20-25 to have a healthy little one. Beyond that, keep active, avoid salty foods and keep up your water intake. Also rest well. Try to exercise good in your first trimester... but dont be extreme and then walking, swimming water aerobics through till due date is totally acceptable.
If you're already maintaining a healthy balanced diet, just keep up the good work and avoid too much salt.. that will cause bloating in the end, and unfortunately water weight does not just roll off, weight off, or come off any other ways that liquids do....
hope this helps

The only way you can determine the sex is by having an ultrasound done.
