My labor pain felt like a number of things at different times of my labor. It started off like period cramps, then the cramps got harder after awhile but was still bearable. Then they got worse and it felt like really bad gas pains (gross I know but true). I'm sure everyone has has gas pains but it kinda felt like the part where your stomach is rumbling and feel a really sharp pain. That's how it felt like to me anyway and a friend told me the same thing. Then, during the last phase of my labor it felt like someone was stabbing me in my lower stomach with a knife, worst feeling ever. But like they say, everyone is different so I can't really say how yours would feel like, that's just to give you an idea.

Everyone's contractions feel different so you could be headed toward the delivery room soon! Like PP said, time the pain and feel your tummy for tightening. Some women don't even end up feeling contractions until they are almost completely dilated. Some women also don't have regular contractions and only end up with back labor (which is usually VERY painful from what I've heard). No person or even labor is a like so don't be surprised if you aren't have the textbook signs of labor. Even if the pain isn't coming regularly and you can't figure out for sure what the gas pain is, you might want to call your doctor because I'm sure they have seen almost everything and can tell you what is going on. Good luck!

They feel like the worst menstrual cramps in the world!!! Usually, you will get a break between contractions, but I had one huge contraction the whole labor and birth. I never got a break between them. It was the worst.

My first child weighed 7 7 and it was no more than bad cramps. My second weighed 10 6 and it was one of the worse things ever. It depends can you tolerate pain. I would do it again though. My children are wonderful.

Mine weren't like what I would describe as cramping. It was more of a tight sore muscle that would come and go. And my problem is they came and went from Friday at 4 am until I had my baby on Sunday at 11 am. Good luck and focus on your happy place!

The first pangs felt like indigestion or hunger pangs, the second wave started feeling like menstrual cramps, and after that it got worse and worse to the point i felt like someone was trying to rip my back open...after that everything was fine...(thank the gods for epidurals)

It had been 35 years ago yesterday that I had labor pains...They say it is a pain that you will forget....That is a bunch of malarkey....I remember it like it was......well, you know....;-)
It felt like my insides were being ripped out.......ouch!
We both survived it, and are fine.....I had "natural" birth.....nothing for pain....Don't worry, they have more techniques today so you won't feel pain...Babies are a gift.....God bless you!
Good Luck!

It was probably the most excrutiating pain I've ever been through (until I had the epidural), but in the end, it was worth it.
