The first thing you will want to do is convert these fractions so that they have a common denominator (that's the bottom number). Since 3x2=6 this problem should be pretty easy. So...first we will separately multiply the numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number) of the first fraction by two. So: 2 (numerator) x 2 = 4 and 3 (denominator) x 2 = 6. So the first fraction has been converted from 2/3 to 4/6. It is the same amount but now that the bottom number is the same on both fractions we can now add them together. 4 (from 4/6) plus 1 (from 1/6) = 5. So the answer is 5/6. I hope that made sense.

2/3 + 1/6= 4/6 + 1/6 = 5/6. Just find whichever numbers the denominators have in common (here, you can multiply 3 x 2 to get 6, but you might have to multiply both to get to a common number), then get the fractions to these (here, since 3 x 2 = 6, multiply 2 x 2 also, so 2/3 is the same as 4/6). Then you can just add the numerators (4 + 1 = 5).

its 5/6 because 2/3 is also 4/6 so when you at the numerators straight across it will be 4+1 which is 5 and the denominator on an addition of fractions stays the same which is 6. so 5/6
