Yes I agree with you 100%, but could the situation ever be reached where all religion was banished?
Also bear in mind that religion is a great source of comfort to millions who need some thing to fall back on, like a drug. "Religion is the opium of the people"
While I agree that the world would be a happier place without it, I'm sure we would be able to find other things that would be worth killing each other for, our elected governments would see to that!
As for this 'going to hell or heaven' bit, that all depends on whatever you your self believe! If you really believe that is all a load of complete 'tosh' , then it is a load of 'tosh'!
Don't ever worry about that I don't believe hence I have no worries on that score, and I feel free to voice my opinion on the question of religion, and so should you.
It's really like 'water off a ducks back' I keep saying "There is no God" the religious nuts keep saying "Oh yes there is look at chapter so and so in the bible, that proves it "
It is in fact a non ending saga, and will continue to be for at least my life time, and yours.
But all in all, I agree the world would be a better place without religion!

I don't think religio is the problem, you see it's the interpretation of it!some people believe that everybody who doesn't believe the same they do should go to hell! i don't believe it that way at all, even though i am a Catholic. i believe that religion is just the way people interpret the reason for things the human mind can't understand, how it all begun and why was it so. the main problem i believe is that people don't understand that it's all an interpretation and many religions could be right altogether without the rest being wrong! many people are too righid about what they beileve and i think that is a HUGE issue...they believe that because The Bible said the world was created in 7 days that was exactly what happened and it isn't that way at all! it's just symbolic for what really happened! the same happens with Adam and Eve, i think they are a representation of the downfall of human beings...which shouldn't yhave to put Darwin's theory down...but the main reason why people still believe is because there is one huge question unresolved...how did it all begin???
i'm sorry if i got too much out of the subject! i trully understand that whoever believes he or she is a true believer and still thinks everyone should go to hell is way out of date!! it's not like that at all and they should get their religious morale right for once!!!

I don't know but if god did exist and built the world in seven days and all that rubbish I think a two thousand year holiday is a little excessive (Even for Gorden Brown)!

On the other side of the coin, last time I went to a funeral I felt jealous of the people who believed in god and afterlife and who generally believed that they would be reunited with the people who they have lost in another world, giving them strength to carry on, as for me I just felt empty.

To sum it up may be religion still has its good points and gives hope to others around the world and for this reason I would say Take the best points and unite all religions as a friendly force for good and stop the stupid fights.

I do not believe this could ever happen and if it did we would still have bible bashers telling us to obey or go to hell and all I can say to them is " I will see you when I get there."

Religion is not the cause of evil, it is a symptom of it. Removing religion will not prevent attrocities, it will merely remove one avenue of them. People will always find a reason to be unpleasant to each other.

Besides you cannot ban religion. Religion is a persons belief in something larger than themselves. And it helps us find and classify the nutters. :)

On a more serious note the most important thing that a country can to is to separate religion and state. Belief should not be a basis of law.

I agree entirely with you. "Nuts" being the operative word of course. Thats why they cause all the trouble, they're all insane zealots! (Don't you just hate being preached at continually by so called do gooders). I wish they would all keep their pious opinions to themselves. I don't believe in God, but I AM a good person and I know some real spiteful Christians. So, if they have nothing useful to say, except how great religion makes them feel and how good their God is, they should shut the hell up!

Because the religious nuts use every opportunity to get their message out there. I agree we'd be better off without religion. If there is a God, I'm sure He/She is not interested inour constant devotion, our false flattery just to get a ticket to the best seats in the afterlife

Because they are self-important egotists desperate for a platform.
I almost agree with you, but think that 'banning' religion would only grant it the lure of the forbidden. Let us just hope that increasing secularism will lead to it's natural atrophy. (However, looking at America, a 'secular' nation with the separation of church and state built into it's constitution, I despair!

You sound like one of my friends, but we always end up having really long conversations when we discuss it - i'm a "religious nut", and he always questions everything i say and believe in, but i think it's quite good, because at first it made me question my faith and beliefs - i now believe more strongly in God, and he can question me more and more, and it won't affect me - i'll just give him the best answers i can......
