My sister tried proactive and didn't relly get results. I have tried Neutrogena face wash, but didn't notice much improvement in my skin texture or clarity. The best thing I've found for acne prone skin is Clinique Antibacterial bar soap. It really clears my skin up without irritation, redness, or dry spots. I've also noticed that my skin tone is much more even and I can wear less makeup. It costs 10.00 for one bar and lasts me about 2 months when I wash my face with it twice a day.

You should use St. Ives apricot line. Its a series of 3, and its made of exfoliating nutrients for all skin types. That should work. Remember that the acne clearing medications dont work right away. Give it about 3 weeks.
If that doesnt work, which it shoud, try a microdermabration system. their a little costy though. The cheapest one that is trustworthy is about $28.

Depending on what your willing to spend and how your skin reacts to certain products, I would say that the 3-1 cleanser from MaryKay works well because it contains cleanses, exfoliates and freshens (three step in one). If your skin is more sensitive than that, or you would prefer not to exfoliate on a daily basis, I would suggest using good 'ole dove soap. Which by the way, Dove is the what the dermatologist told me to use when I experience severe acne breakouts.

I use a generic astringent and cotton balls. (Don't laugh - I know I look like some rough biker guy but I do have skin care needs as well.)

if you haven't done yet, and even if you don't have health insurance you should invest in a visit to the dermatologist.
