she won't grow out of it if you don't help her. trust me, i was a shy child and i'm no better now. put her in different social activities, like sports, and if it doesn't work out, if would still probably inspire a good hobby. make sure she likes herself, and boost her confidence. when i was growing up, i was around people who only knew how to tear me down and not build me up, and now i don't know how to help myself. so be careful

Just be patient. If she's only three and she's shy, it's an inborn trait. Pressuring her to act like an extroverted child would make her more shy and self conscious. Build up her confidence by accepting her shyness and helping her to learn social skills gradually. Think of it as a good thing that she won't be outgoing with strangers, it can be dangerous these days!

I think many kids are shy. I have 3 boys, and I know my oldest will talk to everyone which worries me. My middle son is shy at first but then losens up. My baby boy is only 1, and he hates strange people holding him. I would just think to give her time, and maybe starting preschool (I answered another Q of yours LOL) will help with this. Goodluck

Try putting her in a Mother's Day Out type thing a few days week so she gets used to other kids and adults...Call friends with kids and set up play dates at the park or restaurants with play places, once she sees the other kids are having fun she'll be more then likely to join in.

just take her out more often, have her interact with other kids, speak to them as they were to be grown ups, they like that. have them meet people and teach her how to shake hands.
