The Six Flags in California may close, a story in the paper a few weeks ago said that attendance is lagging because it's in a bad area, and mainly because the kids that hang out there all the time causing trouble make it unbearable for families.
I haven't heard any definite plans to close, or when it would happen if it did.

most have already closed end of July and are running only certain weekends in august
the others have greatly reduced hours
but with almost $3 billion in debt and not bringing in the dough this was inevitable
no one in the industry is even considering buying them and keeping them running. the rides are all shot to heck from years of neglect. no unfortunately 6 flags days are numbered
six flag stock today fri.8/19/06 is around $4
expect all six parksalready on the chopping block to sold to real estate devolpersand torn down by christmass and another 15 on the chopping block by jan.

I've heard it, but why would they start advertising more on tv? Even if someone buys it, they would have to tear it down. There is probably more steel in those roller coasters than what was used in the world trade center. Sure developers would like to turn it into a housing development but it would take years to dismantle let alone build the houses. By that time the market could dip and they would lose even more money. I'll believe it when I see signs up saying they are closing, which I haven't yet.

I heard the same thing about Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia, Ca). But I keep seeing advertisements on tv for new rides they are opening up, so I don't really think they are closing. Why would they spend money to open up new rides when they are just going to close the park?

Six Flags is closing some of thier theme parks, such as the one in Houston TX. They are not closing all of them down. I just checked out thier web page, and they are actually making additions onto some of thier parks.

Last I heard about a month ago they're only closing certain locations. I don't remember which ones they are closing, just that they are closing 6 of their parks in the US but the rest will remain open.

One can only hope. They run the worst amusement parks ever. Someone is always getting hurt due to poor ride maintenance. A friend of mine almost fell out of lightening loops, even after he told the idiots running the ride that his harness didn't lock. They ignored him and ran the ride.
