I have a 98 mustang convertible. My door is having trouble closing some times. Someone told me is could be a sagging problem. Has anyone ever heard of this? Could this be it?

Thanks!

Ok, Thanks! I have owned the car since it was new and there have been no accidents. I have an appointment at the Ford dealer tomorrow. I guess I will see what they say. Thanks for all of the suggestions. This will help a lot tomorrow.

I have a 99 convertible, and it depends on where you live and how it is stored (temperature variations...wear and tear). My suggestion is look at the window seals. The black rubber parts that are attached to your conv. top and connect with your window when the window is rolled up. I had one tear and my door wouldn't close and the window wouldn't seal. Also have the door looked at. Do the door lines and the body lines match up?
Your door may need to be leveled out. A good body repair-guy can handle that, or if your handy get a repair manual for that make or go on-line to a mustang club and ask them how it is done. I haven't had a problem with sagging, but my car is garaged most of the time.
You may just have a hinge problem.....and accidents or damage to nearby areas?

hope this helps

good luck.

Usually when doors quit closing easily it is due to some movement in the frame. It is possible the car is sagging. My question, are the doors easier to close with the roof up?? or is it about the same up or down? Does the car track straight down the road, or does it wander? Has the car ever been hit/wrecked? Any front end damage, i.e. hit curbs etc. etc. etc. Best bet is to take it to a shop that can check frame alignment.

Could be one of several problems (1) the hinge pins are worn (2) the latching mechanism is damaged or worn (3) the door frame is damaged because of an accident (4) the car frame is damaged and misaligned due to an accident.

Your door is out of alignment. There is a metal striker on the car body that the door latches too when it is shut. Your door got out of alignment and is hitting that striker rather than latching to it. That is why you are having problems shutting the door. You can look at that striker and see scratch marks from where it is hitting. Or you can try this lift up on the door when you shut it it should be easier to shut when lifted up. It's not hard to fix but I don't know how much the body shop will charge to fix it
