What most people percieve as reality, is actually fantasy in disguise.
Fantasy, is a projection of an individual's ideals and desires, which is the realm in which a majority of society functions. Relationships for example: when two people join together in a realationship, it is new and exciting and all of the excitement surrounding this new experience causes each of those involved to start the "dreaming" process with regards to the other. They are perfect! Beautiful! Intelligent! Funny! Everything that the person was looking for in a match! It's never until later when each inevidably emerges from the stage of novelty, to the stage of familiarity, that seemingly new tendancies begin to emerge. Not that they really are new, they were only masked before by the mental projections and compensations to make the new encounter flawless. In this new stage, everything about the other becomes annoying and people often start tossing about phrases such as, 'Now I see his/her true colors.' or, 'He/she changed since we started dating.'. It's not that person that changed, but the perception, rather. Now, the eyes are wide open, momentarily, until it is decided whether to work through the rough spots with attention and care, or give up and find yourself another illusion. Same thing happens when starting a new job; all you see is the excitement. This job is so much more promising than the old job...you like everyone and they like you...you get more hours...you're making more money... then boom! Your co-workers start gossiping behind your back...the long hours are cutting in on your free time... you still aren't earning enough, and so on. Same thing when you move to a new place...it's great during the first few months to a year... then it's just like the place you moved away from.
Reality has the tendancy to slap people in the face for ignoring it so often. Reality would be splendid if we could just manage to stay there long enough to know what to expect and how to handle situations, yet everyone just keeps on painting that pretty picture in their perception only to have the colors wash away when it rains.
