You said number, not integer. If you said integer, the next integer directly after 7 is 8. However, since you said number, there is no number that will answer the question.

Regardless of what answer someone gave you (e.g. 7.0000001), there are infinitely more numbers between 7 and that number.

The best I can say is 7+epsilon, where epsilon is arbitrarily small.

And if you mean any number after 7, there are infintely more numbers that are greater than 7 on the number line.

Obviously you weren't serious in asking this question and were expecting an answer of 8, so I'll oblige and say the answer is:

On the integer number line, eight (8) comes after seven (7)...

There is none. Suppose that n is the first number that comes after 7. Then consider the number 7+(n-7)/2. Clearly, this number is greater than 7, but less than n. But that contradicts the assertion that n is the first number that comes after 7. Therefore our initial assumption, that there is such a number, is false, and there is no number that comes after 7.

Unless you're referring only to integers, in which case the answer is obviously 8.

11
because when 7 8 9 and 10 got so frightened that he would be next, it was 11 who decided to come after 7 and teach him a lesson as to just how unpleasant it is to be eaten, so he got 5 and 6 to add their weight to his, and they got over 7 and turned him into pie.

I can't believe I'm answering this dumb question, but the answer depends on what direction your traveling. In any case, there are an infinate number of answers.
