Transfer everything that's not 'mission critical' to the slave and then remember that that's where you want to save most of your stuff.

Here's what I did: I have a primary drive and a secondary drive. My OS (operating system) is on the primary drive, and I have my most vital programs installed on it too (MS Word, Anti-virus, video drivers, etc.) I keep my music on my primary drive too. Most of my other programs, downloads, and videos go on my secondary/slave drive (which is usually called D: E: or F:) This keeps my primary drive relatively clean, fast, and spacious for the pagefile.

If I was in your situation, I would format/wipe both drives, install XP on the primary, and install most of the programs on the other drive.

I would think the easiest way to go about solving the problem would be to uninstall as much software as possible and instal it back on to the 40, along with moving as many files as possible. That would clear up your current master drive, and be much easier then installing XP on the 40 then putting it as the master drive.

Yes you can put 2 OS on your computer. It will prompt you before loading an OS so you can choose which to load. I've found it easier to just use 1 OS and the other hard drive for storage.
