Actually some of the funding goes as far back as the 60s.
And yes it was the GOP. They never received any funds under a democratic president.
Funny how republicans want to take credit for certain things but take no responsibliity for others... oh wait that is their party motto.. what was I thinking. LOL

Are YOU aware that the Democrats supported the murderous Stalin regime during World War II? And are you also aware that it was a Democratic president who overthrew the Iranian government, leaving us with what we face there today? Oh yeah, one more - it was also a Democratic president who gave North Korea, who we are still technically at war with as a peace treaty was never signed, nuclear power.
With such a record of the Democrats proving to be on the wrong side of issues when dealing with arming and funding enemies - how can anyone possbly justify voting Democratic?
See, we can play this back and forth blame game all day. The point is that times change.

Read "bag2calli" again, I am not going to retype it.
BTW, did you know FDR had access to decoded Japanese Naval messages 2 months before Dec 7, 1941? Did you know Truman had no information on the Manhattan Project before FDR died? Did you know Kennedy started US armed involvement in Viet Nam? Did you know Nixon stopped it? Did you know all US combatant troops were out 2 years before the Democratic controlled Senate cut off funds to South Vietnamese forces allowing the fall of South Viet Nam? Did you know the Kennedy clan made more money in the WWs than Bush's grandpa ever saw in his life? Did you know Kerry would have been the third richest President had he been elected while Bush didn't make the top 10? Did you know Kerry admitted to war crimes while under oath before Congress upon his return from Viet Nam? Did you know lying to a Federal Grand Jury is a felony? BTW, I'd still rather go hunting with Dick than tour the bridges of Chappaquiddick with Ted, at least with Dick you might survive.
This game is endless. Politics is a nasty. The walls in your house are at least as dirty as the walls in Bush's/GOP's, and you both have big glass windows.
Can you see why I don't vote for incumbents??? The two major party's do nothing but gripe about the other.

Yes, though Al Qaeda didn't come into existence until after most of that funding. The U.S. government was supporting the Afghan mujaheddin against the Soviet Union; they weren't supporting Al Qaeda per se.
Likewise, U.S. support to Saddam was aimed at fighting what was then seen as the greater evil, Iran. It wasn't as if the U.S. government had warm, fuzzy feelings for the Hussein regime.
To level this claim as some kind of devastating critique against the GOP is silly. I could just as easily criticize the Democrats for funding the Soviet Union during WWII, only to face them in 5 decades of Cold War after Germany had been defeated.
It's even more ludicrous to suggest this is about the GOP exclusively. Yes, no Democratic President gave funding, but that's because there WEREN'T any Democratic Presidents during the span of the Afghan-Soviet and Iran-Iraq wars. You can't do much when you aren't in power.

it might have been the government but it was the Republicans in office . Address that point . You Republicans always have something to say , but never address the question .
Yes I was aware of that happening , it seem the Republicans have very selective memoir's when it comes to things like that . Lets be fair ,
the Democrats have had their share of stupid decisions too ..
If the Government would think of how it would affect the people , instead of all these little games they play with other country . We might be living in a safer world today .
Andrew , hit it right on . Good answer !!!

Just to make myself clear. I am a Democrat. In fact, I am so liberal, I make you look like a kill-crazy neo-con. That being said, please stop blaming republicans for the actions of the american government. The American Government used groups like the Taliban and the Mujahideen as proxies to use against the communists. A Democrat example of this would be the Kennedy administration launching the Bay of Pigs and at least three assassination attempts against Castro. Lots of American countries sold products to not only the Nazi's, but Germany during WWI. It is a long American tradition to trade and make money off of both sides of a conflict. George W. definitely can't remove his head from his ***, but don't walk around saying that Republicans are responsible for all the ills of the present day. Stick to the facts, don't editorialize and be part of the solution not part of the problem.

The GOP didn't fund anyone, the U.S. government did. But please don't just tell half the story. Saddam was perceived to be a good guy during the early days of his rule and as for Al Qaeda, I think you mean the Taliban. We gave them supplies and weaponry to the 'mujahadeen' to fight the Soviet Union, but little did we know they were terrorists. It's like when you give money to a homeless person expecting them to buy food but they go around the corner and buy a crack rock instead.
..... and 'BeachBum', how much of that money came from the Republican National Committee? NONE! Now, how much came from the United States Dept. of Defense? Exactly, the money came from the U.S. government. Let's not forget that the money had to be approved by the Congress, which was controlled by Democrats during the times you pointed out.

The US government, under Reagan, with a Democrat-controlled House and Senate supported the Afghan guerrillas (not specifically Al Queda) and the government of Iraq. Both were done under the theory of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". What did we learn from history? Absolutely nothing. We continue, now and under Clinton, to support repressive regimes and this will continue to bite us in the butt.

See, that's what happens when you take world history and current events out of schools. Nobody knows what's going on in the world around them. It doesn't matter which of the two parties you vote for in the States, they've both done some pretty despicable things.

I don't care for Republicans on philosophical grounds and for their relative narrow mindedness, but unless you can show some intent for past actions to result in the future consequences, your contentions are essentially bogus.
