The Pianist with Adrian Brody. What makes even more sad is that it is a true story.

Top 5 saddest movies of all time:
1. Romeo and Juliet- Not the new version, the older version. Star-crossed lovers never meant to be.
2. Powder- ignorance is such an ugly thing.
3. Ladder 49- I hate the ending! They let him die.
4. The Perfect Storm- its sad because its true.
5. Cruel Intensions- Reese and Ryan should have been together. It was so sad when he got hit by the car.

Zhang Yimou's The Road Home. There are several sad films that have had a deep emotional resonance with me, but this made me a blubbering mess.

An interesting IMDb messageboard topic: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235060/board/nest/13747121 many people tell how The Road Home made them cry like a baby, including lots of tough guys :)

Also:

The ending of the holocaust film Obchod na korze (The Shop on Main Street) was terribly heartbreaking. I also found Dancer in the Dark very hard to watch during some scenes (mostly towards the end). That's a very sad film.

Peppermint Candy, a South Korean film, begins with a man committing suicide. The film then goes backwards through his life, charting the key points where his life went wrong. I personally found it devastating.

I was also a blubbering mess during the ending of the Australian film Japanese Story.

The color purple. I love the movie but cry everytime I see it.

The parts where the two sisters didn't have anyone but each other and the husband kicked the younger one out because she wouldn't let him rape her in woods get me everytime. I have a siter who I love so much and I would just dies if someone literally pulled us apart and wouldn't allow us to see each other for over 20 years.

Also the part where shug goes back to her fathers church and crings all the sinner from the juke joint. And they finally have love for each other again after years of not even saying aword to each other even if they saw each other everday.

There are other sad parts too, like the part where the sofia stand up to the white family that wanted her to be a their maid and she refused. the man slapped her and she couldn't hold her hands and knocked him out. Went to Jail for so many years that when she got out her kids were almost grown and she still had to be their maid.

Whole movie just spoke to me.

Loved the movie but nedd a whole box of kleenex to watch it, LOL.
