Does anyone know or have any home remedies for adult acne? My friend has tried everything from over the counter facial cleaners and so forth to actually seeing a dermatologist. She has been on actutane and it did nothing for her. I am wondering if there is any types of food she can eat (other then vitamin A) foods that will help clear her skin or any other concuctions that can help. Also does anyone know of the levulan procedures? how well do they work and are they worth paying 800 dollars per treatment?

Adult acne affects 25% of all adult men and 50% of adult women at some time in their adult lives. These are the official statistics, but I personally don't know many adults who have not had a zit or two in their adult lives. People can develop unpleasant acne or have an acne recurrence in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. It can be difficult to cope with no matter your age, and can cause depression and social anxiety in an adult the same way it can in a teen. Although the causes of adult acne are unknown, it is thought that adult acne may sometimes have hormonal roots. I had been struggling with acne for over 9 years and I used Arbonne's Clear Advantage ($66 the set, which is a great price and you will see the difference within 2 weeks or less depending on the level of acne...) and it has helped so much... I used all the lines and cares available even the comercial where different actors actresses and singers .... proactivand it did not work at all...but Arbonne's clear advantage, has cleared my face and the blemishes as well.... you could check it out, they will work, but if for some reason it doesn't they will return your money within 45 days of purchase, tell her about it and tell her to visit their web page: http://arbonnepuertorico.myarbonne.com , maybe they could send a free sample.....i know i asked them and they sent out a sample of their antiaging line.....

Go to the pharmacy and ask your pharmacist for the pill that treats acne from the inside out. She might have a pH or some other chemical imbalance that is causing the acne if topical medications don't work. When is the last time she's had a physical with full blood work-up?
The pharmacist will know what you're talking about..I forget the name, but you can Google this, I'm sure.

She definitely should stop using any type of facial scrubs and just use a perfume free, organic soap and water, without a washclothe to wash her face. It could be dietary as well, tell her to try eating only organic foods for a few weeks and see if there is any difference, its more expensive, but its better than the alternative.

i would suggest trying "Proactive" you can view this product at Proactive .com. i have used it and have had no further outbreakes...it is super. all of those over the counter remedies can create more troubles on top of the ones she already has. if she has very sensitive skin, these products can also iritate it more. Proactive has the ingredients that really work and a lot of celebs use it too. for sensitive skin i would use it slowly at first. drink tones of water, as the skin needs to be hydrated. the water also helps to cleanse the pores. i had also gone to a dermatologist who in turn had placed me on different types of skin care, which only made things worse. not saying dermatologists remedies are not good, just saying that there are times where they don't really work on some people and can be very costly. try the Proactive and see how that works for her. the cost isn't all that expensive and the results are great...hope this works for her...:) as far as foods, fresh fruits and vegetables are super. have her steam the veges so they don't lose their nutrients and vitamins. stay away from fatty foods such as fast food burgers, or fried. stress is also a main factor for more irritation to the skin. i know that this kind of condition can really take a toll of someone physically..( i was one of them too ). exercise and healthy activity are an important part too. i am no doctor, so if things get worse for her i still would suggest seeing one. also, has she tried a nutritionist? they are super for helping to maintain a very healthy diet...:) as far as the "Levulan", i am sorry, but i have never heard of this, maybe someone else can find a better answer for you with that. i wish your friend well, and the best of luck. she will be just fine. beauty is within and i am sure she is a very beautiful person...:) take care.

Tetracycline is good because it stops the oil from forming in your body. In turn oil is what produces acne (an overproduction of it). I use sensitive skin wash, preferable Cetafil, then I know it sounds weird but I use 1/3 calamine lotion and the rest water and make a mask out of that and leave it on all night. It is used as a drying lotion for chigger bites and such. But it really works! Also I use it under my makeup and it keeps me dry all day.

I use the aspirin mask 2x a week and it really helps (Aspirin dissolved in water, made to a paste, rub on, wait 10 mins and rinse)

Also she might want to lay off cow's milk and wheat (gluten) product. She may be having a delayed reaction to an intolerance or allergy. My face cleared up great since I did that. I also quite using regular moisturizer and started using a progesterone cream.

I have terrible acne and so do many of my friends and their parents.
They found that ProActiv works really well. And it does, I have the worst and most sensitive skin on the planet and it cleared everything up with in a month. It's a little pricey but it's well worth the money and does a spectacular job.
It's a topical cream system with 3 different steps, but believe me, the results are worth it.
I'm pretty sure it's well recgonized in the dermotology as well.
