Great Ideas! I especially love the idea of taking one name from each list. I talked it over with my husband, and we decided that Katherine Ellianna was a great name for our daughter who is due next week.

I have a daughter coming in November, so I can really appreciate what you are going through. My two favorites are Elliana and Madeline. There are way too many Jasmines, Isabellas, and Briannas out there.

By the way, we have decided that we like the name Josie (Josephine). Good luck!

I'd go with Katherine, Madeline, or Carla. They're the only names on your list that aren't on a death spiral toward becoming trailer-trash names. ("Jasmine" is there already.)

There is an interesting analysis of the phenomenon of baby-name devaluation, where one generation's rich-girl name becomes the next generation's you-want-fries-with-that name, in the book Freakonomics. If you want the short version, here are the girl names in that analysis that currently correlate best with high-education, high-income parents:

Lucienne
Marie-Claire
Glynnis
Adair
Meira
Beatrix
Clementine
Philippa
Aviva
Flannery
Rotem
Oona
Atara
Linden
Waverly
Zofia
Pascale
Eleanora
Elika
Neeka

And here are their predictions for the most popular girl names ten years from now:

Annika
Ansley
Ava
Avery
Aviva
Clementine
Eleanor
Ella
Emma
Fiona
Flannery
Grace
Isabel
Kate
Lara
Linden
Maeve
Marie-Claire
Maya
Philippa
Phoebe
Quinn
Sophie
Waverly

Hope this helps.

To lyndseynicole: Perhaps my choice of words (trailer-trash names) was a little crude, but whether you like it or not, there is a correlation between social status, income, and baby name choice. This is not imaginary; it's real, and easily verifiable by analysis of census data. If you give your baby a name that has become associated with low class and low social status, your child WILL be negatively affected by the association. Ignore the facts if you want to, but your child will suffer.

Finding a name that you both like equally is difficult I know. I have 4 children so, I've been through this debate 4 times. I'm assuming that your name is Elizabeth from seeing your nickname on here. Elizabeth is a beautiful name & works well as a middle name with almost anything. The suggestion of picking one of your names & one of your husbands names for the first and middle names for your baby is a good suggestion but then you have the arguement of who gets the first name & who gets the middle name. My suggestion would be to keep searching I know it seems like it won't happen but eventually you will find one that you both love equally. Good Luck.

My children's names are:
Alexandria Elizabeth
Clayton Daniel
Dannicka Cheayne
Erynn Marie

We named our oldest daughter Gabriella Marie.

But on your list, I also like Ellianna, Anastasia and Isabella, besides Gabriella.

We used Marie as a middle name because its my middle name as well as my husband's sister's, my grandmother's and my great aunt's.

Oh, and we call our daughter "Ella" as a nickname.

Congrats on the baby!

A name says a lot about how a child turns out, whether you want to believe it or not. A good strong name from your list would be either Carla or Katherine, But I like Katherine more because there are more nicknames.

Personally they all have potential. Personally I like Ellianna cause you can use the nickname "Elli". I also like the name Isabella (you can use the nickname "Bell"). For middle names you can use your or your husband's mother's first name.

out of your names i like jasmine and anastasia. ellianna is cute too but i like lilyana or liliana better that is one of my daughter's names and out of his names i like isabella and brianna......as for middle names, isabella jayne (my daughter's name), brianna nicole, anastasia rose and jasmine lily. if you do end up with ellianna go with ellianna mae/may. oh by the way i saw that someone said that certain names are trailer trash....i wish people would grow up and realize that names have nothing to do with someone being trailer trash or not it's the person themselves that makes them trailer trash so please stop relating names to stereotypes. it's a very immature thing to do.

I think the names on your list are a little too common, I like Annabella Chianne OR Lucille McKenzie. But try something that a little unique but not too unique. You dont want a kid named Britney w/ 5 other Britney's in her class or a kid w/ a name no one can pronounce like Abrikatakamina
