To me, it's a foregone conclusion that he is leaving. If I were Steelers' management, I'd have to be thinking ahead for a replacement. The two most likely candidates would be Russ Grim and Ken Whisenhunt. If one is selected over the other, the other will most likely leave for a head coaching job elsewhere. They are both primed for their own team. Or will the Steelers go outside the organization to replace Cowher?

I say they keep it 'in-house' and either choose Whisenhut or Grimm. Perhaps that is why Whisenhut chose not to go to the Raiders (that and who would want to work for Al Davis?)

Cowher has been with the Steelers for so long and the organization has been good to him. What other recent NFL coach has had that many years with the same team? None I can think of at the moment. If you are lucky, you get a few years in before they fire you--unless you work for Al Davis, then you are probably gone after 2 seasons if you make it that long.

Cowher's primary purpose was to get a Super Bowl victory. They had a chance against Dallas in the 90s, but that dynasty was going full steam so no dice. Now that Cowher has the ring, he could seriously be thinking about leaving. I mean, he may want another one, who knows. I can see the Steelers picking someone they know well and resepct as the new head coach. Wouldnt' surprise me if it was in house. That is the kind of organization the Steelers are. Very classy and loyal all the way.

And no, I"m not a Steelers fan I just happen to like Cowher and the way the organization is run.

He's not going anywhere for a long long time. So probably some rookie in the NFL playing for him right now that will then turn to coaching and take over his spot after hes unable to coach any longer.

i heard that the notre dame coach would be considered for that job - Bill cowher will be the Cowboy's coach in about 2 years, mark my words - when the tuna gets blown out, Bill Cowher will be the Dallas Cowboy's head coach

I wouldn't say it's a done deal yet that he's going to be leaving. I don't know what the hangup is yet: money, control, years....what?

However, they will likely go outside and hire someone who has ties to the Steelers in some way or shape.
