Vlad has the better career numbers, but at this point Ortiz is arguably the best power guy in the AL.

This is not a fair question to ask because the majority of Papi's late game heroics happen in Boston. With all due respect to it's history and heritage, Fenway Park is a joke of a stadium. I'm sure if Vlad played with the Bosox, his numbers would be just as inflated as Papi's.

Another thing that makes this unfair is the fact that teams can't pitch around Papi the way they pitch around Vlad. If Guerrero had Manny Ramirez coming up behind him do you think the Rangers would have walked him times in one game and thrown at his head the way they have been lately?

I would definetely take Vlad over Papi anytime. When is the last time Papi threw anyone out at the plate? He can't even play defense.

im a yankee fan but i would say papi... but if vlad were in just as manny clutch sistuations as david ortiz has and a better team that gets a lot of attention... vlad might get more attention that he deserves... vlad could be a better clutch if he were in the same situations as ortiz though... but thats just my opinion.... and for power hitter and just powere hitting alone with no clutch factors or anything.... i would say papi... he puts up better numbers

As a red Sox fan who's very disillusioned about Papi, i visit make the mandatory disclaimer that all and distinctive lets be able to do is speculate. you heavily isn't able to in any understand understand "what if" in those circumstances. human beings will bounce suited in and say "Yeah, Papi had 4 RBIs in pastime a million, so when you're taking those away, the Sox might want to have lost..." yet we received't understand what he might want to have executed if he were sparkling (assuming that the leaked suggestions the day previous is ideal). Or, if some diverse individual were in his spot contained in the lineup. Francona's no fool -- there might want to were someone valuable contained in the #3 and #4 spots. (and submit to in thoughts, if Ortiz/Manny were playing badly all season, Epstein might want to have in all likelihood made a bypass and presented some diverse individual in) So verify out it this form -- the Cardinals couldn't hit for crap in the approach the international sequence. They were thoroughly ruled -- in over their heads. So for the rationalization that we do no longer have any info that Wakefield, Schilling, Lowe were juicing, there is not any reason to anticipate that Papi and Manny were the in person-friendly words those who were playing for the length of that sequence. Now, in case you %. to play the What If project (and everyone looks to study to this morning), the actual What If isn't the international sequence, regardless of the obtrusive undeniable actuality that the ALCS. have relaxing.

Papi - not to mention the fact that he is CLUTCH - I would not want to have anybody else at the plate with the game on the line

Ortiz's slugging percentage is .616, Vlad's is .535.

There are four players just in the AL who have higher slugging percentages than Ortiz - Travis Hafner of Cleveland (.636), Jim Thome (.632) and Jermaine Dye (.629) of Chicago, and Manny Ramirez (.619). Poo Holes leads the majors with a .692 slugging percentage.
