The body and mind you have are the two coverings of the pure spirit soul that is you. The body is constantly changing, yet you are not. The mind constantly accepts and rejects and can be very whimsical. You, the pure spirit, witnesses all of these actions that are carried out by the modes of material nature and due to the influence of Maya, illusion, think we are this body and mind and we are doing it all ourselves. The symptom of the soul is consciousness and by development of purified consciousness, we can realize our eternal, spiritual nature.

To answer this I will first explain what The Whole is:
The Whole is never changing by definition, it was never born nor will it cease to exist. It is everything, and nothing can exist outside of it. So how then do we explain the us? We are born, we grow and then we die this basically means we are constantly changing, for us ,and any living being, change is a constant and adaptation to change is crucial for survival. This is evolution, change in a large scale of time and life. Again to answer this and continue with the answer to your question I will explain the place we have within the whole by scaling it down to our every day lives:
How do we create? We can go down to Home Depot, Homebase, or any DIY store and buy material to build something and then build it; or we can create goals, plans, dreams, thoughts, etc. In fact the building or creation of a physical structure would have had to be created mentally first to then be created physically. So how do we define what we are?
We are the Physical Manifestation of the Mental Creation of The Whole.

We are all of these things and more. First off, we are conceived by our parents. That makes us genetically who we are. Then we grow and have experience which ads character onto that. Then we make moral decisions, and become indwelt by a spirit component. Our indwelling spirit works together with out human mind and the adjutant mind spirits and the spirit of truth to develop an eternal soul which can survive death. Our emotions drive us to develop our soul, our physical needs drive us to work, take responsibility, become parents, and use our minds. Our minds and hearts lead us to more and higher challenges for growth. All of it works together to create a competent compassionate eternal being for challenging work in eternity. Enjoy!

we are complex beings... even the simplest ones are still complex..! our ability to love, hate, hurt, strive, succeed, fall, die, live..... all these things are truly Amazing, and something to be thankful for and revered. i believe our purpose is to seek out what is Good, Healthy, Positive, and Right in our lives..and anything that is negative or "bad" will still be there, but will not be the focus of what our lives are about. i believe we can make a difference, become better, always learn more, seek more, become more than what we are yesterday. the possibility is limitless! even if there are more or less complex beings than ourselves, it doesn't matter; what matters is appreciating all what we are capable of, and living life to the fullest in a healthy, positive and successful manner. we have to be confident in our abilities to reach higher and farther.... and be able to handle any mistakes or misfortune that occur on the way.

I think we are flesh, but far from being simple.. It is our brain (that's also flesh) that makes us feel and think and have, if you wanna call that, "a soul" (our thoughts, feeling and most of our brain's activity put together)..

well for those of us who are religious. we were taught that we were made in God's image. Just ast God is 3= father, son and holy spirit, we are 3= mind (equivalent to father) body (equ. to son) and soul (equ. spirit).
while living we develop our minds and our bodies so that when we die, our souls can benefit from it in the afterlife. for those of us who believe in this of course. That's my opinion.

We are not divided beings.
We are all those things running at once.
The front of a waterfall is not independent of the back of it.
You are seeking a word - 'soul'.
And whereas that may exist, additionally, attempting to prove that it is futile.
What you seek, is who is seeking.

we are a part of huge system, larger than you can imagine. We think we are individual and therefor hold ourselves back, not realizing we are just a small piece of the ONE

We are the purest of love......for love is ALL THERE IS and ALL THERE EVER WILL BE....
We're here (re-incarnate) in order to re-member this truth. This is why our souls choose to re-incarnate.
